Joshua and I went to
Joshua and I went to see 21 Grams at the Paradiso last night. I really liked it, he wasn't too sure at first. He complained that it was just like Magnolia or Pulp Fiction, you didn't know what everyone's relationship was until the film was over, but that kept it interesting for me. The movie was mostly filmed in Memphis but what was cool was they didn't make all of the charaters stereotypical southerners with bad accents. I really hate when that happens.
Anyway, I'm off to work the New Year's Eve Show on Beale. Should be crazy. I think that the estimate is that there will be around 50,000 on beale tonight. That's nowhere near the million they are expecting in Times Square, but we're working on it!
Happy New Year...

I went to Bonefish tonight
I went to Bonefish tonight with Laurie. She is about to start work on her PhD in Sociology, so she always makes for good conversation. Sometimes we both go off on tangents and its more like a speech than a conversation, but I don't mind if she doesn't. I wish she could hang out more, but she has way more obligations than I do, with a husband and two small children. She committed to trying to get together at least once a week. We'll soon see if she sticks to it.
I am on a terrible schedule at work. I've been getting there at 6AM and getting off at three while Brad is on vacation. I don't see how he does it. I am just not that much of a morning person. I guess you get used to it after a while, but I hope I don't have to.

I came across this
I came across this picture today and found it to be quite hilarious. I actually never wore "big hair' when I was young, my mom was a hairdresser, so my head was always closely monitored. It just so happened that on the night before this particular picture day, I decided to sleep in those horrid pink sponge rollers so that my hair would not lose it's curl before I took my yearbook pic that afternoon. Anyway, you can easily see what happened, the "high hair" of the year. I didn't even realize how bad it looked until I got the proofs back, then I was mortified.

It's always a good thing
It's always a good thing to be reminded of how unreliable what you see and read is -- apparently the US Park Services is currently removing the footage of gay, feminist, and anti-Vietnam protesters from the video history shown at the Lincoln Memorial, and will be replacing them with "scenes of the Christian group Promise Keepers and pro-Gulf War demonstrators though these events did not take place at the Memorial". Nice.

I went to dinner last
I went to dinner last night with Jeremy at Villa Castrioti in Dirty Dova. Then I headed over to pick up Greg and Patrik for a night of carousing at what seems to be the new "it" place in Memphis, Senses. We danced a little, drank a little, checked out the lookers a little, talked a lot and ended up closing down the place. Jeremy headed out relatively early, I don't think he was having a very good time. We saw another colleague there, Kim Chaney who seemed to be having a very good time. Thanks for the drinks, Kim. David Nestler snuck over to say hello before he had to go back to Melange and count the money. It was a fun night. And what's the perfect way to end a night of partying in Memphis? CK's of course. One thing I definitely missed in NYC was proper hash browns. They have home fries at diners up north, whcih just don't even compare to hash browns. Am I right? Anyway, they weren't as good as waffle house, but they did the trick.

I had so much fun
I had so much fun last night hanging out with some peeps form work. I met Jeremy, who was fresh back from family fun in Arkansas, and Truett at Sidestreet for multiple drinks and laughs. I have been wanting to hang out with Truett for a while, but we work totally different schedules. We exchanged crazy family Christmas stories and talked shop for a while. I feel much more confident in what I am doing after talking to Truett, cause if anyone would just come out and tell me I'm doing a shitty job, it would be him.
Dawn came and met up with us before I left to go meet another friend, Joshua, at The Blue Monkey for a drink. She barely managed to get a word in between all of us fighting for the floor. When Josh called to let me know he had made it to the other bar, they chided me that it was a booty call, but I knew that Joshua wasn't getting off until late and I needed to be there to help him ;)
Anyway, I finally get to see Greg tonight. He is home visiting from Tokyo where he teaches ESL at a university. We haven't seen each other since I went to visit him in April. We have a lot of catching up to do. I'm off to get a pedicure. ta ta!

Anyway, here's a pic of me and Kristen at Sidestreet a couple of weekends ago. She looks great, I look like a b-52's reject. Either way, we had fun. This was the only pic from Kristen's camera that is deemed worthy of international exposure (cause i know so many people read this blog!) But I am still waiting on a coupl of pics from Patrik's camera.

I'm so full! I ate so much at my grandmother's tonight and it was all so good!
I brought my friend Kristen to my family's for Christmas dinner. Thankfully, I don't think she is gonna hold my family against me! This year was pretty tame compared to others, they were probably all on their best behavior since we had a few newbies there this year.
Anyway, this wasn't my best Christmas ever, but it'll do. I've had a pretty crazy year, but everything seems to be back on track for me and I am thankful for that.
Hope your holiday went well...

I had to venture to
I had to venture to the mall today to finish up my christmas shopping (or should I say start?) Anyway, seeing all the teenyboppers in the mall made me appreciate somthing about my parents, and that happens very sporadically. I am so glad my parents didn't let me "hang" at the mall. The kids there looked like little hoodlums. I saw several white boys trying to look like gangsters (in Cordova!) with these huge diamond earrings in their ears. If they only knew how silly they look. I guess we all do in our youth, I'm just glad I am done with that part of my life. Now I just have to go through it with my kids and pay for what I put my parents through.

So Courtney Love might

So Courtney Love might actually have an album coming out soon, if she makes it through her court dates, which she complained about conflicting with the Oscars. I've always found her to be fascinating, like a train wreck. i mean I respect her, cause she does and says exactly what she wants. But, sometimes you need that little voice in your head that says, "Hmmmmmmmm, maybe this isn't such a cool idea." She lacks that voice. Anyway, if you're interested, you can here her first single here.

I stayed out all night
I stayed out all night Friday night with Mellisa. We decided to go on a manhunt at Senses and ended up closing down the place. We ended up talking all night and didn't meet any guys, but it was fun hanging out with a girl for once. Neither of us seem to have too many girlfriends and we can't figure out why. Anyway, when I finally made it home, my head felt very congested and I had a hard time sleeping. I had a big night planned for Saturday night, so I was very paranoid about not getting any rest. Finally, I got up and drank some nyquil. That stuff is like liquid crack. It knocked me on my ass, and when my alarm went off to tell me it was time to start getting ready to go to this big Christmas party that I had been looking forward to going to for months, I was like,"screw the party, I'll see 'em next year!" and then I went back to sleep until this morning. This morning I sort of regreted it, but I'll get over it. Just say no to Nyquil.

When I was young I
When I was young I had all of these huge plans for what I was gonna do with my life. Then when I was 19 I met a boy. I loved this boy so much that we lived together for 3 years and then I married him. Then after being married for 2 years, I sort of went crazy from thinking about all the stuff I had missed out on by being with him and I took off to NYC and left him. Now, he didn't do anything in particular that made me stop loving him, I just had to go. And so I did. I traveled all over the world, witnessed one of the most devestating things that has ever happened in American history, met famous people, worked high profile jobs and mingled with people who have more money than God. Trivial to some, but an incredible experience to me.
Then I came back. And I pondered the idea of seeing this boy again and seeing what might happen, cause now, I think that I am ready for what he wanted me to be ready for 5 years ago. My leaving really fucked up his life, and he has found a way to let me know this every time I have spoken to him since I left. But, I was hoping that at this point, we could put all of that behind us and get a fresh start. I spoke with him today. He is moving from Memphis the second week in January.
So, I wished him well and said that if we get a chance to see each other, at least his moving will take the pressure off. He said that he didn't realize there was any pressure. I said well what if we met and I realized what a huge mistake I had made and now I wanted him back so that we could make babies together? He said that If I hadn't realized by now what a mistake I made, then I never would.
But here's the thing, I loved him more than I have ever loved anyone in my life, but I don't regret leaving. I would have spent my entire life regretting staying if I had. I just wish there had been two of me, so that I could have led both lives simultaneously. But, if I had to choose again which path to take, I'm at peace with the choice I made.

Ok, I have got to
Ok, I have got to get my life in order! My room looks like a tornado hit it, I've barely slept in a week, I haven't even started Christmas shopping. Sometimes a social life is a bad thing. I have been out every night that I can recall, and I haven't been blogging! Sorry, but It would get old saying the same thing every night, ya know? I went to dinner here, I went for drinks here, blah blah blah! And thats another thing! I gotta stop drinking so much! I mean, I'm no alcoholic, but it does make you feel like crap when you go out and end up smoking and drinking every night. And hey, that reminds me, when am I planning to do all that working out I keep telling myself that I am gonna do? Ah, crap I gotta get ready, I'm going to meet Jeremy and Daniel for dinner and drinks. ta ta!

Jeremy, Meg and I went to the new BoneFish Grill in Cordova tonight. We had a great time, the food was excellent and the company was better. Oh, and my ole Alma Mater, University of Memphis won the New Orleans Bowl. That's a really big deal here, and even though I am not much of a football fan, I watched most of the game. Anyway, it was really fun. I drooled over the waiter all night and left my number on my cc receipt. Cross your fingers!

Some of my faithful readers may already know that in NYC I lived just a few blocks from the WTC when it was attacked in 2001. I was at home when the planes hit and was actually thrown out of my bed when the second plane hit since it shook my building so hard. Anyway, my friend Chris who lived on the floor below me at 88 Greenwich has a really interesting account of what happened to him that morning, you can read it here.

[Source: New York Post, Dec.
[Source: New York Post, Dec. 9]
Financial columnist John Crudele reports that top Federal Reserve officials are privately telling people that they plan to add massive amounts of liquidity to the banking system this coming year.
With interest rates so low, Crudele says, the only way they can do this is by monetizing the national debt - buying back government securities that it sold years ago, tossing them in the trash, and selling massive amounts of new debt to cover the massive budget deficit.
This will admittedly create more problems for the dollar's value, scare away foreign investors, and jack up interest rates, Crudele says.
This is NOT a good thing. While the economy will appear to bloom just in time for the 2004 election, the reality is that the nation is being plunged into debt just that much faster. Bush is a man without a job living on his credit cards and throwing a wild party on the plastic to make himself look good to his neighbors.

Daniel and I went out
Daniel and I went out for some great indian grub tonight at Amber Palace. I was kind of scared about the quality there would be in Memphis, but it wasn't bad at all. Then we headed over to opening night at a new club here in Mempho called Senses. It was actually a really cool place, the crowd was a little off, but we went early. It's in the old Amnesia space, if you remember that joint. They have done a major overhaul and the aestetics are really cool. Way too many poeple working there though. It needs some time to get broken in, but I could see myself having some fun times there. Really good happy hour, 2 for 1 is always fun.

Carrie Bradshaw: "When men attempt
Carrie Bradshaw: "When men attempt bold gestures, it's considered romantic. When women do it, it's considered desperate or psycho."
I seem to have this problem all of the time. I don't censor myself, at all. It gets me into trouble. No one ever says anything, but you know that some guys feel awkward cause you might actually expect something from him, so he's got to totally blow you off in order to make it clear that he doesn't like you "that way." But as a woman, you're not supposed to want to just have fun, to be loose and not have expectations, no, we're all planning how to get pregnant so we can snare some poor bastard into marrying us.
I ask people out, I call when I feel like it, as much as I feel like it, I don't play games, I tell the truth, I say what I feel. I think this scares a lot of men and is a real turn-off. But what am I supposed to do? Pretend that I don't care about things that I do? Wait around for them to call me? Men always say that they blow off women cause they don't want to hurt their feelings. Like we all come completely undone when some bozo doesn't like us "that way." Well, one thing that I learned long ago, and I will share with you now, is that whatever someone else's opinion of me is, it is independent of the actuality of who I am. And since I live with myself every single second of every single day, I figure I've got a little bit more knowledge about who and how I am than anyone else. So, if someone doesn't like me "that way," it's their issue, not mine. It doesn't have any bearing on how I feel about myself. It's like being a fucking airplane pilot and having a bus driver tell you that your steering wrong.
Ok, rant over.

I went out and bought
I went out and bought a bunch of new CD's today. Yeah, I download my fair share, but I don't feel bad, cause I buy my fair share too. I like having the whole experience of an album, which includes having the artwork and lyrics in my hand.
I came across a ton of greatest hits and best of CD's. I don't know how I feel about these. They're great for casual listeners of specific artists that just want "the hits," but for the die-hard fans, they're pretty much a rip-off. See, the new marketing scheme seems to be to put two brand new songs on the CD, so for anyone who is actually a fan, you have to buy an album full of songs that you already have just to get the two new songs, which are probably throw aways off other albums anyway. A lot of them also come with DVD's which is pretty cool I guess.
Many people have said that the problem with the music industry is that too many albums only have a couple of good songs on them, and therefore, people would rather just download the songs that they like rather than pay 15 to 20 bucks for a mediocre album. So, I guess people that work in the industry have high hopes for these CD's selling pretty well. What a lot of people probably don't realize is that back in the day when albums were on vinyl, a record only lasted about 40 minutes, and that was including both sides. Now with CD's, an artists is expected to come up with 70 to 80 minutes of music, and they have to out out a new album every two years or they'll be forgotten. It's a whole different animal, and I am interested in seeing how it all plays out.

I just got home from
I just got home from a night of party hopping. Daniel and Melissa invited me to accompany them to a big attorney Christmas bash at the Omni New Daisy hosted by John Michael Bailey. He has some very well known commercials here in Memphis. Honk if you've seen one. We started off at Pat O'Brien's and then walked over to the festivities. It was fun hanging out with my friends, but it was a cash bar and the main outsome of the party was the knowledge that old ladies in Memphis sure do know how to dress slutty. Is this my fate?
Two dogs made me spill my drink on me tonight, one had a lot of facial hair, the other had four legs.
My friend Lee text messaged me that he was down in Tunica, and it was tempting, but, I overcame it.
After a stop at one of Daniel's friend's house and the worst martini I've ever had, I bailed to go home and snuggle up in bed. Alone. Bah.

RE: Holiday Party
I'm happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will take place on December 23, starting at noon in the private function room at the Grill House. There will be a cash bar and plenty of drinks! We'll have a small band playing traditional carols...feel free to sing along. And don't be surprised if our CEO shows up dressed as Santa Claus! A Christmas tree will be lit at 1:00pm. Exchange of gifts among employees can be done at that time; however, no gift should be over $10.00 to make the giving of gifts easy for everyone's pockets. This gathering is only for employees! Our CEO will make a special announcement at that time!
Merry Christmas to you and your family.

RE: Holiday Party
In no way was yesterday's memo intended to exclude our Jewish employees. We recognize that Chanukah is an important holiday, which often coincides with Christmas, though unfortunately not this year. However, from now on we're calling it our "Holiday Party." The same policy applies to any other employees who are not Christians or those still celebrating Reconciliation Day. There will be no Christmas tree present. No Christmas carols sung. We will have other types of music for your enjoyment.
Happy now?
Happy Holidays to you and your family.

RE: Holiday Party
Regarding the note I received from a member of Alcoholics Anonymous requesting a non-drinking table ... you didn't sign your name. I'm happy to accommodate this request, but if I put a sign on a table that reads, "AA Only"; you wouldn't be anonymous anymore. How am I supposed to handle this?
Somebody?
Forget about the gifts exchange, no gifts exchange are allowed since the union members feel that $10.00 is too much money and executives believe $10.00 is a little chintzy.
NO GIFTS EXCHANGE WILL BE ALLOWED.

RE: Holiday Party
What a diverse group we are! I had no idea that December 20 begins the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which forbids eating and drinking during daylight hours. There goes the party! Seriously, we can appreciate how a luncheon at this time of year does not accommodate our Muslim employees' beliefs. Perhaps the Grill House can hold off on serving your meal until the end of the party- or else package everything for you to take it home in little foil doggy baggy. Will that work? Meanwhile, I've arranged for members of Weight Watchers to sit farthest from the dessert buffet and pregnant women will get the table closest to the restrooms. Gays are allowed to sit with each other. Lesbians do not have to sit with gay men, each will have their own table. Yes, there will be flower arrangement for the gay men's table. To the person asking permission to cross dress, no cross-dressing allowed. We will have booster seats for short people. Low-fat food will be available for those on a diet. We cannot control the salt used in the food we suggest for those people with high blood pressure to taste first. There will be fresh fruits as dessert for Diabetics, the restaurant cannot supply "No Sugar" desserts. Sorry!
Did I miss anything?!?!?

RE: The Fucking Holiday Party
Vegetarian pricks I've had it with you people!!! We're going to keep this party at the Grill House whether you like it or not, so you can sit quietly at the table furthest from the "grill of death," as you so quaintly put it, and you'll get your fucking salad bar, including organic tomatoes. But you know, tomatoes have feelings, too. They scream when you slice them. I've heard them scream. I'm hearing them scream right NOW! I hope you all have a rotten holiday! Drive drunk and die,
The Bitch from HELL!!!!!!!!

RE: Patty Lewis and Holiday Party
I'm sure I speak for all of us in wishing Patty Lewis a speedy recovery and I'll continue to forward your cards to her. In the meantime, management has decided to cancel our Holiday Party and give everyone the afternoon of the 23rd off with full pay.
Happy Holidays!

I went to The Blue
I went to The Blue Monkey tonight with some people from work. It was fun getting the inside scoop finally on the Channel Five lowdown. I asked "The Doug" if he wanted to hang out afterward, but he blew me off again. All work and no play makes "The Doug" gay.

I went to Firebird's Rocky
I went to Firebird's Rocky Mountain Grill tonight with some peeps. The food was good, but I'm not really into the whole "theme" restaurant concept. Anyway, later we went to the Camero Cafe...just kidding, actually we went and saw Bad Santa. This movie was seriously, one of the worst movies I have ever seen. SERIOUSLY. Not that I did not laugh my ass off at the absudities all the way through it. It was produced by the Coen Brothers for god's sake! But, then again, they are always pretty much hit or miss. This film has gotten some really rave reviews. There were some really excruciatingly funny moments, but as a film, it fell flat...on it's ass. It was directed by Terry Zwigoff who was responsible for two of my favorite movies, Crumb and Ghost World. What a letdown.

Some friends and I ventured
Some friends and I ventured out tonight to go to the wine tasting at Melange. Of course, for some reason it had been cancelled. We made due with tapas and our own bottle. There was no one there. It was dead. I guess people just don't go out on the week nights here that much. It was exactly opposite in NYC. Everyone went out on the week nights, the weekends were for the tourists and the bridge and tunnel crowd.
In other news, I am getting better at driving my new stick shift. Funny story; I took my dad when I went to test drive my new car. I got into the car and told him to just give me a little refresher course on how to drive a stick shift really quick. He said, "First, press all the way down on the clutch." I was like, "Where's the clutch?" He was like, "Maybe I should drive."
