Yesterday was a long one. It started out downtown at around 9 AM. Channel 5 sent the newsroom to a Poynter training seminar with Al Tompkins of Al's Morning Meeting fame. I thought it was great. I am really excited to use a lot of the techniques that he taught us and I'm really inspired to tell better stories and be more compelling. When the seminar was over at 5, a bunch of us went over to Huey's and had a couple of drinks. I think the general consensus was that we all took something positive away from the day.

Jeremy and I went back to his apartment to get ready to go to John Mayer. He opened a blottle of wine and made me some crazy drink with a straw, I know there was some vodka in it, but other than that I have no idea what it was. It was really good though. We sat in his kitchen and gossiped and had a blast. Then Tammy called and we made plans to meet up with her and Darrell at Do. After food and drink we headed over to the lovely Coliseum for the show.

We arrived at the end of the set by Maroon 5. They were pretty good. They closed their set with Highway to Hell which gave them bonus points. They talked a lot about how cool Memphis was and Elvis, that took away points, so I guess they ended up even. I originally bought their album last year when I was in Tokyo. I have a Japanese import with bonus songs. I read in an engligh language newspaper while I was there that Maroon 5 was to LA what The Strokes were to NYC and they were about to be huge. So, I of course jumped on the trend wagon and checked them out. Nothing about their music ever really hit me as outstanding though, they're pretty much one step away from being a boy band, they're too young and pretty. After Maroon 5, Jeremy and I went out to the car and grabbed my camera so that we could take illegal pics of Mr Mayer.

Ok, so here's my confession about John Mayer. He was really really good. I am won over. He is a fabulous musician, has a great personality and is really hot. I'm smitten. We had really great seats so I was trying to use my jedi mind tricks on him to get him to look my way, point, and have someone bring me backstage. However the sound level of the 15,000 twinks in the audience screwed up my concentration and I never quite made it happen. I think all the metal from all the girls with braces messed up my signal. Anyway, Mr Mayer is a really talented musician and deserves his props. I dig him.

So, the show was great, we had a great time. I really wanted Darrell and Tammy to come out to my brother's birthday party at Shan's, but living in Bartlett is kind of like living in one of the boroughs. People hate leaving the island of Mid-town. So, they dropped Jeremy and I off at his car and we headed out to Shan's. When we got there the party seemed to be in full swing. Shan really went all out on the liquor and he had a keg. I didn't witness any kegstands this time though. Jeremy couldn't hang and was exhausted from all that we had done and bailed pretty quickly. I of course immediately did a shot of tequila and found someone to debate. I grabbed Trey Ryan and asked him if he was still a republican, some people just ask how's someone's been or what's been going on, I tend to be a little bit more of an instigator. It's a terrible habit really, it's quite silly to mix politics and alcohol, nothing good ever comes of it. Although, a little mental yopa never hurt anyone.

Of course, I want to make sure that I mention that the wonderful Wally Green was at the party. He came out to a bar a couple of weeks ago and I did not mention in my blog that he was there. He hasn't let me live it down since. Now, we're straight, right Wally? Anyway, all in all, I think the party was a hit. Everyone seemed to be having a really good time. Shan has a beautiful house, and a great big, beautiful bed. Really, it was huge. He seemed to have a few ladies that might have been vying to try it out too. Shan is such a player...from what I heard, the last guests didn't leave until around 6 AM the next morning. I was long gone by then.

Patrik and I went to Do Sushi last night. The food was good but the service was a little lax and you can't smoke. They charged me for three drinks when I only had two and had to practically beg for both. The portions were a little skimpy too. We managed to enjoy ourselves though. Afterwards, we walked across the street to Melange but not much was going on, so we went and met Brad Troxel at The Blue Monkey. It was packed and we had a lovely discussion about wonderbread and being overly judgmental about people and things. Jeremy was supposed to come but he stood us up. I judged that he sucked. All in all it was a lovely night, I had to bail relatively early because I had to be downtown early this morning for a conference.

Well, I guess I wasn't to far off with my review of The Passion of the Christ. All the reviews I read say the same thing.

Even Roger Ebert, who liked the film, writes:

The movie is 126 minutes long, and I would guess that at least 100 of those minutes, maybe more, are concerned specifically and graphically with the details of the torture and death of Jesus. This is the most violent film I have ever seen.

Yeah, like I said before: It was just one big long beatin'.

Ok, I hate to be the one to point this out, cause I don't usually get all into schooling folks about the constitution and shit, yo. It's just not my style. But with all this crazy uproar over the concept of gay marriage, I just gots to say it.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't it say in the first fucking amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free
exercise thereof;or abridging the freedom of speech,or of the press;or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Does Bush and these other idiots not understand the very first sentence?

Same sex couples in California are getting married, and this effects me how? And I should care why?

People wonder why it's a big deal to give them equal protection under the law, well, thay want the exact same shit anyone else would want under the law: insurance benefits, tax benefits, to not have to testify against their partner in court, child custody rights, to have say in how things will be handled in case of a death, oh, and then there's that little thing known as respect for their relationship. Those crazies!

It's been a busy week so far at work. On Monday I sat in on a custody trial that has gotten a lot of national attention. It involves a Chinese couple who asked an american family to take care of their infant daughter while they sorted through some personal and legal issues, now almost 5 years later, they are battling to get their daughter back. It is a very complicated situation and both families are guilty of not doing the right thing. The problem is, do you take a five-year-old from the only family she has ever known and put her with her birth parents who are still struggling immigrants? It's a very tough question to answer.

Tonight I covered the preview of the movie The Passion of the Christ. A church in Cordova rented out three theaters and gave away 900 tickets to it's members for their families and friends. I got to sit in on the movie. When it was over, I saw my cousin Laurie in the lobby. She had gone to see the film with some of her friends. After we were all introduced, one of them asked me what I thought. My reply was, "You don't wanna know what I thought. It was just one big long beatin."

The look on Laurie's face was like I had slapped her. It made me feel bad. I guess that was a blasphemus thing to say. The thing is, I'm agnostic, and I'll admit that to anyone, if they ask, but I don't seek out to share my ideas about god. But, I wasn't gonna lie. I didn't like the movie. I didn't feel anything except that it was a very silly concept and the aim of the film was to produce guilt. I don't think that the way the crucifixion went down was very likely either. In the movie, Jesus was beaten to within a inch of his life, and then he was beat some more, and then he carried his cross up a mountain, and he was beat some more and then he would fall down every five minutes from being beaten so bad and then he would get up and pick up the cross and carry it some more. Does anyone else understand the concept of blood loss and shock?

I could go on, but you should see it for yourself. Everyone should make their own decision.

And to end on an amusing note, Mel Gibson gave god a co-writing credit for the screenplay. He's got a one-way ticket to paradise.

Melody sent me a couple of more pics from our last big hurrah in NYC before I left. It was Halloween, obviously and we had a blast until Julie fell down and broke her arm. I still have the handcuffs that we had to remove form her wrist. Anway, last night, while I was watching SatC, it really made me nostaligic for those days. We all had so much fun together! Going out dancing and going to shows.

All of my friends, except Julie and Laura, pretty much left NYC within 6 months of each other. Hillary and Joe went off to LA, Sierra went to Arizona, Shultzie went to Seattle, and Melody moved to Florida. So, it wouldn't be the same now anyway. But it was fun while it lasted and I will always treasure the time that we did have together. As you get older, it is so much harder to make really good friends.

I haven't been as good as I want to be about staying in touch with all of them. Sometimes life just gets in the way. It's hard enough keeping up with my friends here. But it is so very important. I cherish the times that I have spent with my friends, I cherish them, I have been so very lucky to meet such awesome people. I really hope that we all become super successful so that we can all afford to have a reunion!

Anyway, I was very sad that SatC ended, but it makes me happy that everyone got what they wanted in the end. That's how I want my life to be. Is that too much to ask? Sooner or later, things just fall into place right? I feel like that is kind of happening for me in Memphis, but I am also scared that the bubble may burst any moment. when things are going well for me, I can't help but wonder when it is all going to fall apart.

Anyway, here's to my friends! I love you guys! I miss you! And I promise to stay in better touch!

It seems Ashton Kutcher isn't quite the young hottie he has made himself out to be.

How Old Is Ashton Kutcher?

Hey, 1974 was a good year, I should know...

I bet he didn't study Chemical engineering in college before he dropped out to model either.

A friend of mine went to a "train party" in NYC this weekend. It's basically where a bunch of people take over one of the cars on the subway and play music, smoke cigarettes and drink in the name of rebellion. I went to one a couple of years ago. It was fun for a minute, but as many of my drinking colleagues know, for me to enjoy myself properly, I need a waiter and a seat. On the way back from the party I attended I ended up getting a ticket for hopping the turnstile. I was at some random subway stop in Brooklyn and couldn't find an attendent to buy a token from. This was before they had all the fancy metrocard machines. So, Jason and I took the one token he had and went through together, we didn't realize there was a cop walking around the corner jsut as we came through. There is probably still a warrant out for me for that one. The cop that wrote it told me to not bother paying it. Anyway, you can check out these pics or these pics or read this guy's review of the party.

It's just too complicated and it never quite works out the way you want it to. If it weren't for STD's there would really be no reason to date someone these days, unless you are a girl and you just want someone to take you out and pay. Which, I will admit, I have gone out with guys and have thought to myself, "he better offer to pay cause I've sat here and listened to him yap with a smile on my face and he is boring me to tears!"

Without the "dating" crap you would just hang out and whatever happened happened, right? It's the dating and the obligations and the responsibilty that can usually mess up a really great relationship. As soon as you start expecting things from someone, that's when you get screwed, and I don't mean the good kind.

Really, the biggest problem I find today is that guys think that all girls want the same thing, and guess what? We don't!

Enough bitching, check this out.

So, John Mayer's peeps denied my request for an interview when he comes to town next Saturday to play the coliseum. I don't know how I feel about that. I am not a huge fan of his music, I like him, but there's just something a little too "nice" about him, either way, I was still planning to take him to bed, the big lug. He has that my-head-is-way-too-big-for-my-body quality that for some reason I just can't get enough of. Oh well, because of the fabulous Jeremy, we still have 4th row seats at the show. Anything can happen.

You do realize I am kidding, right?

We went out last night for Clay's 27th birthday. We had originally planned to go watch the U of M game and have drinks before checking out some new Thai place downtown. But because no one could ever get it together we ended up getting to the bar 5 minutes before the game was over. Oh, well, at least they won. We left and made our way over to Sawaddii to eat, but upon arriving we found that not only can you not smoke inside the restaurant, they did not serve alcohol. And this was supposed to be a party? Coincidentally, Brad Troxel was there with some friends and I asked him if he was going to make good on his offer to paint a picture of me. Originally, it was supposed to be nude, but we made a compromise and decided I didn't have to get naked.

Anyway, we ducked out of Sawaddii and went next door to Buckley's. Even though it wasn't as exotic, we actually had a great meal and a great time. A few of us went and had drinks afterwards, but since I had the pleasure of being called into work Saturday morning at 7:45 after getting home around 2AM Friday night, I wasn't up for a long night.

BTW, next week is the big party, if you don't know about it, ask me...

looking to make some new friends. Let me tell you a
little bit about myself: I am 28 with blonde hair,
blue eyes and a very athletic build at 175lbs.(Very
attractive) I'm looking for an attractive woman who
is intelligent and self-confident. I'm all about
having a good time and having fun, really anything
goes and I'm always up for trying anything at least
once. It would be nice to meet a woman that I click
with in and out of the bedroom and hopefully that
woman is you. ;) I do have a picture to exchange so
if I intrigue you at all feel free to drop me a line
and say hi. I hope to hear from you soon.

Ok, here's the problem with this email. Guys, take note. I get a couple like this a week.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself: I am 28 with blonde hair, blue eyes and a very athletic build at 175lbs.(Very attractive)

Really? Blonde, blue eyes, athletic build? Well, that sure does narrow down what you look like.

I'm looking for an attractive woman who is intelligent and self-confident. I'm all about having a good time and having fun, really anything goes and I'm always up for trying anything at least once.

Well, that's all certainly original. I bet you like movies and going to dinner too! You probably like to watch sports, play golf and are looking for a nice girl to snuggle on the couch with. I know, I know, you're a hard working guy that's honest, caring and trustworthy, you just haven't found the right girl yet. If I asked, you'd tell me that you love to travel and try new things, but really you've never been further west than Arkansas. Not counting that trip to The Grand Canyon when you were 8. Trying something new is going to a different Chinese restaurant for dinner. When you say travel, you mean Florida. Believe me, I have this dance memorized.

I'm not trying to be mean! I'm really not, but if you plan on emailing me, please please please refrain from boring me to tears.

Last night I went to dinner with Jeremy. So I guess I did have a Valentine's date afterall. We were going to go to Bosco's, but we decided it would be to packed with real lovah's and opted for dinner at Side Street. We kept faking lover's spats at our table for the entertainment of the other diner's. "I can't believe you slept with my brother! You whore!"

Daniel and Brad came and met us and we got to watch the "Dirty Little Secrets" sweeps package again. There was a press conference downtown on Friday that Mayor Wharton held, when Bill Lunn came back after covering it, he said that the thong story was all the rage with all the folks at the newser and the mayor asked if was going to be shown again because he missed it.

Anyway, after dinner and drinks we headed over to Lindsay's "Fuck (me please) Valentine's Day Party." It was a kegger. Really. I am not kidding. There was an actual keg and people doing keg stands. It was so retro and cute. My favorite waiter from Side Street, Jeff (hi Jeff), was there. He was sloshed. I ducked away when he tried to make out with me, not that making out with him would have been a bad thing, I'm just not real big on PDA. Luckily for him, he found at least three other girls that took him up on his offer. I also saw a couple of old school peeps that I went to high school with. Oh, and this is classic, I realized very late in the evening that Brad, who've I've hung out with a couple of times now was actually in my graduating class and we went to school together for four years and never met each other. How weird is that?

I must be old. I am waking up early on Saturday mornings to play around and find stuff like this. What happened to the olden days where I would sleep until 4 in the afternoon on Saturday, waking up just in time to get a couple of things done and then start getting ready for going out Saturday night?

Sometimes I kind of wake up and reality hits me that I am back in Memphis and I think, "Oh my god! What have I done? What - have - I - done?." Then I go back to talking to someone on the phone at work about how bad customer service is at MLG&W.

I met Brandon at The Monkey after work last night. It was our first real catch-up session after not having seen each other for 10 years. He's a real sweetheart. And if you're wondering, he has a girlfriend, so although I will continue to unabashedly flirt with him, it's hands-off. But that's ok, there's nothing wrong with a little sexual tension, it makes things that much more interesting. Before he got there I was sitting at the bar having a debate with a republican CBU professor. We were having such a lively conversation, I didn't realize that the drinks just kept coming. Needless to say, I was hammered. But it was fun. Brandon couldn't stay out late and I needed to get some food and sober up so I went over to Side Street and met Jeremy, Truett and Anna Marie. We bitched for a bit about stupid people. I ate and then decided to call it a night. Home by 1:00 AM on a Friday night? What's that about?

So, I am sure you have heard the Bush AWOL story by now. If not, here is an excellent recap. Anyway, I interviewed a FEDEX pilot today that was originally interviewed in the an article in the Memphis Flyer entitled "BUSH A NO-SHOW AT ALABAMA BASE, SAYS MEMPHIAN "

Basically he says that they were looking forward to Bush coming when they heard a young Lt from a very influential political family was joining them. They basically wanted another young officer to pal around with, since there were not that many of them at the base, i.e., they needed another wingman to go out and pick up chicks with. Unfortunately, Bush never showed up.

You know those crazy little flash movies that everyone passes around at the office. Some of them, you just can't figure out what the hell somone was thinking when they built them. Well, I saw this one a whileback and it was certainly one of the ones that made me crack up but also made me wonder, "Why?"

Well, I guess some marketing person also saw it and thought it was funny too and wanted to find a use for it. So, they used it for the new Quizno's Commercial.

Direct marketing to stoners.

Here's another classic.

3. Believer or not, what's your favorite superstition? Never let a black cat cross your path. Gotta hate it for people that live with black cats.

So, I did an undercover report that aired tonight on the 10 o'clock news. It was fronted by Anna Marie Hartman. Basically, I went undercover and bought thongs from Victoria's Secret, Dillard's and Goldsmiths, marked the tags and then went and returned them. Then I went back the next day and bought them back, just to show that people could be buying underwear that could possibly have been worn and then returned. We actually didn't try any of them on, but we did interview a pathologist that said that those thongs could have all kinds of crazy gross stuff on them after they've been up someone's bum. The package was a hit and our ratings were great, we are gonna rerun it Saturday night.

The only problem I had with the package was that I didn't know that they were going to show me. We brought this undercover camera in and I thought we would just be shooting my hands. On the day we went to the mall, it was freezing and I was wearing my huge baglady coat. So, I look like a monster every time they show a clip of me. A few people in the newsroom even commented to me about how huge I looked. Oh well, next time I will be more aware and wear something fitted.

Yes, it's like watching a train wreck, but I love Courtney Love, cause I will always root for the bad girl. It reminds me of my motto as a child, "Fuck shit up and get beat down." Cute huh? That was in my gangsta period. Anyway, every night when my best friend Kyra and I would get ready to go out for the evening we would blast Live Through This. It was fabulous. Now I'm all nostalgic.

If you're interested, check out Court's new video.

So, this is the cover of Janet's new album. Hey, if this is what 40 looks like, bring it on. Who the hell is Damita Jo? Is that her hooker name? You know, the first street you lived on and the name of your dog. Or is it the name of your dog and the first street you lived on? I forget. Anyway, looks a little photoshopped to me. she looks like a character from one of those japanese anime comics. Of course, you could say I'm just jealous, but of a cartoon? C'mon!

BTW, if you missed the superbowl half-time show, or even if you watched it, you have got to see this.

I went to Daniel's tonight and vegged out and watched the Grammys. It was fun except the part where he burned the pizza. Ok, ok, it probably wasn't his fault, but since he was in charge of it and it did end up being burned, it might as well have been, right? Jeremy wanted me to do a review of the show for the ole blog, but to tell you the truth there's not much to say. It was a pretty boring show, after last week's superbowl, if I don't see any nipples I am always going to be disappointed.

Daniel and I have mastered the art of watching television without wasting a moment on commercials. We started watching the Grammys and then when SATC came on we paused the station, swictched to the DVR, watched the show, switched back to the Grammy's and fast forwarded through all the boring parts until CYE was recorded, then switched back the DVR, watched CYE and then switched back to the Grammy's. Television viewing as multi-tasking. As Jeremy would say, "I love It!"

Kym Clark invited some friends and me to a Mardi Gras ball Saturday night that she was asked to emcee. It was sponsored by Mystic Krewe of United Memphis, which I am told is a gay and lesbian alliance type organization that does charity work in Memphis for people with cancer. I originally assumed that it was going to be a drag ball, but although there were a few people there that were cross-dressers, tha majority seemed to be society peeps. Patrik took some really great pics I will post when he gets around to sending them to me.

We didn't realize until we got there that it was a ball, everyone was in gowns and tuxes. We were slightly underdressed. But it was fun. Especially the entertainment. We were lucky enough to get the pleasure of exerience in agroup of gay square-dancers. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Then we got to see a drag queen do her best impression of Britney Spears. Classic.

Of course, after the ball we all went to Side Street and had the pleasure of being waited on by Special Ed. He is really the best waiter there, but don't try to get smart with him because he will read you like book and put you back on the shelf. Meg and Anna Marie came and met us after they got off work. I ended up going home pretty early for a Saturday night, but I was exhausted.

(bndr)= Slang. A spree, especially a drinking spree.

Friday night I ended up going out and seeing places I had only heard about. I started out at The Blue Monkey with Kristen. We saw my friend Brandon there and had a couple of drinks with him. We proceeded to chit chat for a bit and then decided to go meet up with Clay and Shan at Huey's to watch the Grizzlies play. However, Shan got caught up at work with a project and didn't make it afterall. We watched part of the game, had some crappy food, and I switched to soda so that I could make it to the next stop. Clay had to go back to work, so we hung out for a little while longer and then moved onto Side Street. My favorite waiter, Jeff, hooked us up with a table, but there was only room for four, which was definitely a problem. As soon as we sat down, George Brown walked in with a couple of his friends and we crowded in. then people started just pouring in, first Jeremy, then Truett, then Matt Lee. About half an hour later Timmy and Gabe came in, then Tony. We had a full crowd. It was fun, but almost too many people. I finally, moved down next to Jeremy and we proceeded to crack each other up all night. He is so funny, especially after he's had a few shots. Truett's cousin showed up with a few of his friends and joined us for a bit too. Then around two, the crowd started to thin. Truett's cousin and friends, Matt and I all ended up back at The Blue Monkey. We closed the place down. Truett and I then proceeded to move on to the Two Way Inn, which was very crowded for 4AM. After getting bumped one too many times, we moved on to Printer's Alley. It was an all nighter for sure. And of course the next day when I was trying to catch up on sleep, my phone would not stop ringing from people wanting to make plans for Saturday night. Sometimes being a party girl feels like a full time job. (insert violin music here)

The lovely Kym Clark did a charity event a few days ago at Bosco's where she was a celebrity waiter. The event was sponsered by The Wake-Up Crew at Rock 103 and was to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. She gave up her evening to give something back to the community, to help the less fortunate, to show that she is a kind giving soul - and all she got out of it was this picture of herself with that dude from Saliva. Oh, the sacrifice.

I ran into a very old friend the other night at The Blue Monkey. Brandon McGovern used to play in a band called Broken Silence when I was in high school. I briefly dated two of the band members, but I always had a crush on Brandon. We made out one night, but I wouldn't sleep with him. I knew that if I did, I would have fallen in love with him. Anyway, our brothers have been friends for many years, but we lost touch after I graduated high school and the band broke up. I used to have a cassette of some demos that they did and listened to it so much that I wore it out. We chatted for a few minutes and I learned that he put out an album last year. You can go here and hear clips from it. I like it a lot.

From: THE CIRCULAR FILE AT THE METROPOLITAN DIARY

Dear Diary:

I was on the crosstown bus the other morning when a mother, attempting to soothe the fidgety baby in her lap, started softly singing "The Wheels on the Bus." That, of course, is the children's song in which "the wheels on the bus go 'round and 'round," followed by other verses in which, for example, "the wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish."

Hardly after the mother started into the second verse, a smartly dressed elderly gentleman joined in to sing "the doors on the bus go open and shut." Soon, a half-dozen of us in the back of the M86 were serenading the now-delighted baby, our impromptu chorus reflecting the human panorama of New York City in all its glorious diversity.

Before we could launch into the next stanza, a woman of a certain age leaned toward the mother, holding up her hand to get our attention for what she had to say. "Shut up!" she shrieked. "It's bad enough I have to go to chemotherapy today. Do I have to listen to you assholes, too?"

There was an awkward silence. Then the whole bus burst into applause.

I went to Portofino's Restaurant and Ocean Club tonight with Daniel for dinner. Wesley Clark was supposed to be there for a kick-off reception for his visit to Memphis over the next couple of days. I got info that he would be arriving around 6PM. I went to the restaurant and was told by someone in his group that it would be more like 8, so we sat down and had dinner. Then we moved to the bar and watched the returns for the primaries in Oklahoma, Arizona, South Carolina, Missouri, Arizona, New Mexico and North Dakota. The minutes kept slipping by and still no Clark. One of his aides came and told me right as I was about to leave that he was sure to be there around 9, so I called the station to let them know and was told a photog was on the way. Matt got there and shot the jubilation of the crowd as Clark was announced the winner in Oklahoma. Now, we were being told he would arrive around 10:30. As we sat watching the rest of the returns come in, we finally realized that we were being taken when Clark was shown on television giving a victory speech live in Oklahoma.

I met and interviewed Harold Ford Jr today. It was a softball interview that came up at the last minute when he stopped by the station to do satellite interviews with Crossfire and Kudlow & Cramer. We discussed Bush's budget, the new space initiative, how the change in date of Tennessee 's primary this year makes us more of a player in national politics, and why he is backing Kerry for president. He suggested that the primaries start in the south and move north in later weeks due to the weather. He is a very charismatic man. I made a slight fool out of myself by putting his mic on complately backwards. Nice.

I went to Daniel's new pad tonight for a little superbowl shindig. We basically all stuffed ourselves with junk food and babbled, pausing only for the commercials. We did quiet down for the half-time show which we figured would be the most entertaining part of the evening. I was a little disappointed with it though. It seemed to all be music from two or more years ago, nothing new, nothing interesting. Of course, that was until the final moments when Justin pulled off part of Janet's top and she flashed her boobie. We all sat in awe for a few moments. Then we rewound the DVR a few times to catch a better glimpse of what had just happened. I guess Justin got Britney back, too bad she wasn't in the audience for them to cut to her reaction. I guess Janet really needs the publicity for her new album. The story is all ready all over the internet. Guess who is going to be the most googled keyword for the next week?

UPDATE:Now, Justin is claiming that the whole thing was unintentional! Come On!

You can go here and find out if we have a chance of being in a relationship. It's based solely, of course, upon our names.

Dr. Love thinks a relationship might work out between Rachel and Ryan Adams, but the chance is very small. A successful relationship is possible, but you both have to work on it. Do not sit back and think that it will all work out fine, because it might not be working out the way you wanted it to. Spend as much time with each other as possible. Again, the chance of this relationship working out is very small, so even when you do work hard on it, it still might not work out.

I came upon another Memphis blogger this afternoon and was amused to find one of his posts was about my station:

I was watching WMC, Channel 5 NBC, morning news today when I noticed something new. The familiar news crawl was working its way along the bottom of the screen. Time & temp on the right; ad or station logo on the left. The ad logo this time was the McDonald's golden arch. When the crawl finished with this sentence: "David Kay has claimed there's no evidence Iraq possessed WMDs." the crawl then changed to: "I'm lovin' it!" That's the latest McDonald's ad catchphrase. It's the first time I've seen an advertiser's tag so prominently displayed.

Oooooh, bad timing. I can just imagine the morning when that ad bit comes after some murder or disaster story. Gonna piss some folks off, no doubt. I'm sure WMC will tell you they exercise caution, but we're only human. One morning, someone will come in a little too tired and bleary-eyed, or a bit late and rushed, or a finger will slip, or some joke will get away from the joker, or someone just won't see the connection until its too late. It's gonna happen.

And I'll be taking the calls when it does...

The whole thing is reminiscent of this.

More here.

January 30, 2004 -- Bar and nightclub owners in NYC are in an uproar over a
proposal that would require a "nightlife license" to stay open after 1 a.m.
City Consumer Affairs Commissioner Gretchen Dykstra is pushing a plan that
would require a special two-year license for any nightspot with a capacity
of 75 or more where the music would be 90 decibels or higher.

When I first moved to New York I shot a segment for MTV2 in a dirty punk club in the east village. It was a bar that had a small stage for bands to play. All over the walls were these signs that said in very large print NO DANCING! I thought that it was part of the decor and mentioned how funny the irony of the signs was to another guy I was working with. He told me that it wasn't a joke, there was really no dancing in the club. Under an old 1926 Cabaret License law, anyone who wished to allow people to dance in their establishment needed a lengthy and costly approval from the DCA. Needless to say, the former Mayor of NY, Rudy Giuliani, aggressively enforced this silly law with his "Quality of Life" campaign by forming a multi-agency Nightclub Enforcement Task Force. This was the end of many clubs and bars.

It seemed for about a minute last year that this controversy would be coming to an end when The New York Department of Consumer Affairs announced a proposal to abolish NYC's Cabaret License and implement a new nightlife license that would address the real concerns of the community. Those concerns are noise pollution, dirty streets and rowdy crowds.

But here's the problem, when NYC outlawed smoking in bars last year, they created the situation that they are now trying to correct by closing bars at 1 AM. When people are at the bar if they want to smoke, they all have to go outside. The people that live above all the bars get pissed off. The thing is, if you can't smoke and you get kicked out at 1 AM, you might as well live in Ohio. New York will soon be holding onto it's hipster cred by a string. People in NY live there because they are social creatures and they live for the nightlife. It's not LA, no one is getting up to go surfing before they go to work. The City is made for night owls and insomniacs. Even the work day revolves around the nightlife. When I lived there I barely knew anyone who had to be at work before 10, I usually rolled in around 11. You can't call LA until then anyway.

Ok, so there's my rant - for my peeps on the island, I still feel your pain.

Last night, Jeremy, Gabe and I went to Tunica to Bluesville to interview the B-52's for a special we are trying to put together at the station. I interviewed them and surprisingly enough, it went great! They were super nice. Cindy is a little timid, Keith is the intellectual, and Kate and Fred are the life of the party. I think Kate was pregnant, but I wasn't stupid enough to ask. After the interview we had tickets to see the show in the upstairs VIP area. It was a swank pad and we sat and listened to the first half of the show. Then we went down stairs to do some gambling. Horseshoe was packed so I suggested we go to the dump next door, The Sheraton.

I used to go to the casinos a lot when I was in college. I love the table games. I haven't really been in about 5 years and things definitely feel different down there now. It just felt dirty. I played blackjack for a while and doubled my $40 and then went and met Gabe and Jeremy at the bar. We were surrounded by at least three people in their 80's without teeth. It felt like everyone there was either a trucker, homeless or worked at the DMV. I felt surrounded by hopelessness. Fun was not the word to descibe it, so we came back to Memphis to the place where everyone knows our names, Side Street. Rumor is, when we came in a small battle went down about who was gonna get to wait on us.
