Well, well, well - Where do I begin?

First of all, if you missed the Pirates at The Glass Onion last night you missed their last show EVER! (at The Glass Onion!) Word on the street is that The Onion has been sold and next week will morph into an Irish Pub complete with new owners, a new bar and, get this: uniforms! Ha! Half of the rockstars in town work there and now they're gonna be covered in flare! Poor guys! Anywho, great show last night by The Pirates and Hedgeceep (who rocked so hard they kept blowing the fuse! I think they might have been doing it on purpose, as it provided just enough time for Doug to go grab a beer while it was being fixed!)

I chatted with Cory Branan last night about his upcoming album which has now been pushed back to a fall release. That sucks! The good news is that he canceled his gig at The Hi-Tone on April 23rd and pushed it back to May 11th just for me. He didn't want to compete with my party! I tried to talk him into going to see The Tunnel Clones on the 15th at the Hi-Tone but I will be super surprised if he shows. That's gonna be a great show. If you like Hip-Hop at all, I highly recommend you go to that one.

And some sad news today on the rock tip: Billy from GuitarWolf apparently died of a heartattack this morning. That sucks. You can go lament with the heartbroken over on the Goner Message Board.

In happier news, don't miss out tonight on the Mid-town dance crawl. We're gonna start out at Dish to hear Witness drop phat beats and then move on to The Buccaneer to check out DJ's Eric and Zack play showtunes once we get sloppy. See ya there...

P.S. If you have Prichard Smith's contact info in NYC, please email me. Some dude from Norway is looking for him...

On occasion I get emails from people asking about a good band to check out. I always hesitate to answer because everyone has different tastes. What I will say is that there are a lot of good bands playing around town. Here's a bunch of their Myspace profiles. You should be able to hear a few songs there. If you like'em, make them your friend and go to their shows, buy their CD's and t-shirts and then get drunk and tell 'em how you want to be their manager. They love that stuff...

I got up early this morning after a late night to do my internets and write a post for Scenestars, but since Blogger is being a complete ass right now, I guess I'll write something stupid about last night. Ok? Go.

First of all, I was chatting with Mark last night about all the stuff going on in Memphis right now and how we can't keep up with it all. There's hardly a night when there isn't something fun going on, a cool DJ to hear, a great restaurant to try, a cool show to see. It's Manhattan on the Mississippi, yo. Here's my meager advice: Take advantage of it people! You have the rest of your life to sit on the couch and watch reality shows (actually, hopefully not because I pray they'll go out of fashion soon)! If you are in any way, shape or form a music lover, there's a lot of stuff happening in Memphis right now, and if you're sitting around complaining that there is nothing to do, well, you are really missing out. I mean when The Hi-Tone is packed on a Tuesday night and the dancefloor is full of hot sweaty bodies getting their groove on, something is going on. Summer's coming and it's only gonna get hotter.

If you weren't there, here's what you missed: Motley Crue, rockstars throwing up on the bar, Drinkard flashing for beers, Jen all dolled-up in heels, Suicidal Tendencies, Bayne surrounded by the hipster hottie crew, Greg and Sue tearing up the dancefloor, the Cure, Chris almost, kind of, sorta dancing, Lelani and Liz making the boys drool, Quiet Riot, and me shakin' my ass. My one complaint was the less than plentiful keg available for beer bust. It was tapped by 11:30.

Of course, my favorite part of the night was after Chris left, I recieved a text message form him saying that David Gest was in the house at R.P. Tracks. Do the celebrity sightings here ever end?

Last night since I had no intention of going out, the party showed up at my doorstep. A drop-by from Helen and Tony turned into an improptu movie night at my house for about 8 peeps. I tried to move my DVD player into the den to hook it up to Georgia's TV but we couldn't figure out how to make it work so we watched Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle on my computer. We could have just watched in my room, but I didn't think I could fit everyone in my bed. Next time we'll try harder. It was actually a really hilarious movie, and I don't usually like stoner movies. The scene where Doogie Howser did a line off a hooker's ass was classic. Sims missed it, of course, since he never shows up anyhere until after 1AM. Now I'm in trouble for watching our movie with other people. Luckily, it was the kind of film that you can watch 30 times if you're in the right frame of mind.

Anyway, afterwards Patrik and I sat on my bed and played video games until 2AM. It was a pretty fun night. And now when someone asks if I do anything except go to shows, I can look them in the eye and and say, "Sometimes."

So, anywho, tonight is a Girl's Night Out at the Hi-Tone for PBR beer bust and to hear Piper and Bad News Ang play 80's music. Hopefully it's different 80's tunes than what they play at Jam On It at Dish Sunday nights. I have a sneaky feeling it will be.

P.S. Ya fired! How come nobody told me Blair Combest was playing at the P&H last night? He also has a fancy new website. Check it out. Then go to Scenestars and d/l a couple of his songs in the right sidebar. Then buy his album. Then buy me a drink. Then...

From the desk of Cort V1.0:

Let's preface this story with, "Just so you know: I don't watch television."

Ryan called me earlier last week and asked if I wanted to listen to some music and get $50. Getting paid for something I would do for free? Yes. We meet up on Saturday and go to a hotel where this event is occuring. We are taken to a room and basically told the gist of the situation. They give us a CD and a car. We drive around, listen to the CD, come back and fill out a survey. Okay, sounds good. They send us out separately and I'm just going along listening to an 80s mix: The Cure, The Ramones, and some stuff I don't know. I sing along to a couple of the songs and then come back to the hotel. I fill out a survey and then they give us another CD and send us out together. We drive around and start acting crazy; dancing around in the car and ordering at the drive-thru with the stereo full blast, doing the robot to a Chaka Kahn song and killing Bohemian Rhapsody while singing (yelling) out the windows to people. We get back to the hotel and the people are all, "Cool, just wait a minute and we'll have you pull the car around back to inspect for damages and whatnot." As I pull around back the phone inside the car rings and speakerphone comes on and the voice asks, "Hey Cort, do you wanna be on TV?" Which I didn't really hear so I'm like, "The what-what?" And as soon as I turn the corner I'm rushed by 3 cameras and one of those fuzzy boom mics and this guy is all, "You're on VH1's MotorMouth!!!" Ryan totally set me up!! They're asking me questions and all I'm thinking is, "Man, I'm going to look so stupid but at least I didn't pick my nose or anything!"

So I don't know if they'll use any of the footage but I wouldn't be surprised. Keep an eye out. My hair is all messy and I'm wearing an olive green Panthers shirt.

MissHellion.jpgI woke up this morning feeling like I got hit by a truck. I have a giant bruise on my chest and I think I have a broken toe. At first I thought it was a direct result from ending up next to the stage last night at the Lucero show in sandals, but then I remembered that I went to a pretty intense yoga class yesterday, and that probably added a lot to the pain.

For a moment last night I thought that nobody was coming out for some reason. I always go to shows by myself because I like to see the opening band (last night it was Communique who were really great! We invited them to hit the Two-Way for a late night burger but they totally flodged), it's easier to meet new people when you're not surrounded by a posse, and I like to come and leave when I'm ready. Plus you're always gonna see 82 people you know in Memphis. However, last night, although there was a decent crowd for the opening act, I hardly saw anyone that I thought would be there. So, I ducked out during the second band and hit Dish to say hello to Lorin and wait for Hellion. That's where a few folks were holed up waiting for the main event at the Deli.

I got a couple of text messages while I was there and that's when I realized that a lot of folks probably were gonna go to The Buc to hear the last Royal Pendletons show. I dig that band a lot, but I've seen them many times over the years and was kind of not feeling like getting pummeled in my skirt and sandals. Coincidentally, that happened anyway at the Lucero show because when I returned from Dish the Deli was packed out and all the crazy Miller High Life kids were ready to rumble.

Anywho, Hellion stayed behind at Dish until the end of the show, then we shot over to the Two-Way and realized that there were no boys there, so her, Georgia and I went back to the Deli to find some boys to bring with us. Unfortunately, all we managed to do was cock block each other, although Hellion almost managed to get one guy to go out to her car and knit with her. She's a girl after my own heart, we like to say stuff that confuses guys just to see their reaction. It's funny.

So, we went back to the Two-Way and ate our burgers and then just like clockwork, at 3:10 half of mid-town rolled into the place. We even got Sims to meet us for a veggie burger. It's pretty punk rawk when you're at home until 3AM and that's the first time you leave your house to go out for the evening. Anyway, I chatted with Lauryn for a bit which was cool. You see the same people around mid-town consistentlly, but you've never been introduced and so it feels random just walking up and chatting with them. That's what's so great about Myspace. Someone sends you a friend invite and your like, "Hey! I guess they don't think I'm a total dork (little do they know!) I guess I'll say hello next time I see them..."

wow, this post has been totally random, but my policy is: I don't rewrite, I don't spellcheck, I don't think about it. That would be too much like work and then I would never write anything.

Carry on.

March 25, 2005

Ok. Wednesday night. I'm not going out. No intention. Well, maybe a little. People are planning to go see Electric Eel Shock at the Hi-Tone. I'm about to break down and go up there. Before I do, Chris IM's me and tells me to go to DMBQ. I argued but relented and made my way to the Deli. I sat at the bar with Kasey and listened to the two opening bands, The Oscars and The Immortal Lee County Killers (comprised mostly of the former Ruckus). I even talked shit with Eldorado at the bar for a hot minute. He said that the Hi-Tone show may be the more popular show, but we were at the cool show. More on that laters.

Anyway, Chris finally showed up right as the bartender was handing out earplugs before DMBQ. They're like a japanese noise-core group from Tokyo. They are the loudest band I have ever heard. What I remember most from the show was a lot of spitting and people leaving. Seriously, the half full Deli was down to about 20 people when I looked at Chris and Kasey and said that I was done and going to the Hi-Tone. They agreed.

We got there just in time to not have to pay and to catch The EES set. They were extremely loud also, but their music had more of a metal vibe and at least could be danced to. The show was pretty packed for Wednesday, and lo and behold, who do you think I saw there when I arrived? Mr. Eldorado Del Rey. It seems he ducked out of the cool show for the more popular one also. Heh.

I stayed out too late and had a ton of stuff to do Thursday, including cleaning my house for the birthday party Georgia was giving Tony Thusday night at our house. She told me to invite people, but I totally forgot. I ended up running around the entire day and didn't get anything accomplished in terms of getting ready for the party. I rolled into my place around 9PM that night to a house full of people. I didn't have much time to socialize because I needed to take a shower before going to pick up Patrik to go check out Clem Snide. I rushed to get ready, ran and picked up Patrik and then swung back by to mingle and have a couple of beers. I hated to just drop in to a party at my own place, but I was pretty excited to see Clem Snide. I ended up taking the birthday boy with me, along with Chris and Patrik. Helen went too, but bailed at the door when she realized it was 10 bucks.

None of the regular mid-town hipster crowd seemed to be up in the place, it was mostly unfamiliar faces, Tommy from The Glass was there, and Rachel V2.0 and Scott from Automusik, other than that I hardly saw any of my regular show companions. Everyone really missed out, cause Clem Snide put on a really entertaining excellent show. There was some drunk girl trying to talk to the singer for most of the first set and he dealt with it pretty well. I wanted to tell her to shut the hell up, but didn't want to end up in a bar brawl.

We motored out right after the show to meet up with the peeps at Dish and to hear the end of Witness' set. We rallied up a crew there and moved on to Newby's (Yes! NEWBY'S) to go mingle with the hippie kids and hear Mini-Van Bluesband. That place was packed the hell out. Dreadlocks and Birkenstocks EVERYWHERE! By that point in the night, I don't think anyone cared though. We had a pretty fun time and stayed until they kicked us out. We ended up at Miles' for a minute and then I went home.

Whats going on tonight anyway? Tomorrow I'll probably go to Lucero since I haven't seen them yet. I heard that might be another Scenester Scotty party after the show. That would be fun. Sunday night I am definitely gonna go to The Buc to catch Hedgecreep. That's Doug from the Glass Onion's band. I help him bartend sometimes;) Anyway, I was supposed to go see them St Patrick's Day at Murphey's but ended up going to Young Agent Jones instead. Also, Richard James & The Special Riders are playing and a little birdy told me that I shouldn't miss that show. So, that's where I'll be.

Last night was awesome. I won't rehash what Eric already wrote, but I will say that I only bought the first drink for JW. He bought all the rest. I had three IM's when I got home today asking me if I slept with him. What do you people think? I just sleep with random singers the first night I meet them?

Anyway, whatever, I didn't just chat up the rockstars last night, I met lots of cool people. I even hashed things out with Bayne. I know I'm still gonna see him everywhere and I'm not the type to just ignore someone. So, it's all good. The past five days have been so much fun, but I am so totally looking forward to not going out tonight. Or tomorrow night. I mean it. Really.

If you get the chance, should go see Bloodthirsty Lovers with The Circuit Benders at The Hi-Tone April 9th. Mark your calendars.

P.S. Mike thinks my new pic makes me look like a librarian. So, Librarians: Hot or Not Hot?

Remember when I publicly declared my need to walk down the aisle with Jack White after the Grammies? Well, I got my chance last night to tell him face-to-face about what my intentions were. Luckily, common sense grabbed hold of me right at the last minute and when I saw him lurking in the back of the Deli at the Bloodthirsty Lovers show, I walked up and chatted him up but I refrained from asking him to marry me. It seems he's in town at Ardent mixing the latest White Stripes record.

Anyway, he's gonna try to make it to the Enon show tonight if he can get done early enough, neither of us is that into Guitar Wolf. Actually, there's been a debate going on for the past couple of days among the mid-town rocksters about which show to go to: Guitar Wolf and Secret Service or Enon and Color Cast? hmmmmmmm....

Easy decision for me, I've seen Guitar Wolf at least 4 or 5 times in the last 8 years and getting pummeled at a show just isn't my idea of fun anymore. However, word on the street is there's gonna be a pre-show party at Goner from 6-10, so I can still go yell in their faces "Rock n Roll!" and get to the Hi-tone in plenty of time to see the 82 bands that are playing there tonight.

I know the comments were turned off for a long time, but they're back - so holla!

Hey now! Whats that over there in my radio.blog? The new unreleased Fiona Apple record? I think it may be...

The past three days have been all about rock shows and house parties, which just happen to be my two favorite things ever. As planned, I checked out Augustine and they were terrific. Eric and I have a dream ticket of regional acts that we think would be an amazing show. More on that to come.

Anyway, I'm pretty exhausted from the past three days, yet there is a show tonight and 2 or 3 this week I plan on attending. People who say that there's nothing to do in Memphis are retards. There's more to do than I can find time to do. If I could just get rid of this whole sleeping thing, I would be much more productive and social.

So, it's off to the Deli tonight to see Bloodthirsty Lovers, then Enon with Color Cast tomorrow and Clem Snide Thursday. See ya there.

March 19, 2005

St Patrick's Day turned into a pub crawl. Some friends and I gathered at Dish to start the night off, then I went and met Chris at the Hi-tone to catch Young Agent Jones. They were really great, I dug their show even more this time than the last. I don't know when they might play Memphis again, but I hope it's soon. And I'm not saying that just because the singer is a hot piece of ass. They've got style and good songs, and you have to have both to be successful. I've been having an ongoing discussion about that for the past couple of weeks with my friends that work in the music business or in bands. Some people want to argue that the way a band looks shouldn't matter as long as the music is good, but that's just not the way it works. As soon as you get up on stage it stops being just about the music and becomes about selling yourself. I've sat on the floor with media kits from 100 bands wanting me to check out their music when I did music supervision. I would open the folder and look at their picture and if something about them didn't stand out immediately just from looking at them I would move on to the next one. I just didn't have time to listen to every CD. But I digress...

Anyway, Eric invited the guys from YAJ to hang out with us and participate in our festivities for the evening, so after I went and gathered some folks from Dish, we all met up at the Buc. It was packed out but we missed seeing MOTO. I tried to purchase my drinks there by offering the Dionne Warwick record I found in the parking lot, but Scott wasn't interested.

So we hung out there for a while and then eventually headed to Miles' for the last stop of the evening, bringing half the bar with us. My roommate stopped by and the next thing I know we're draggin YAJ back to our place for a sleepover. Too bad we still haven't put together the bed in the guest room. Oh well, our couches were probably a nice alternative to their van.

Last night I recieved an invite to check out a show by The Antique Curtains. I had heard about them from Eric several times and was excited to finally get to hear them. Imagine my surprise when they started playing and I relized that I know half the band, yet had no idea that they were in a band together. Now imagine my relief when they were actually good and I didn't have to lie to them after the show. I was telling the guitarist that they reminded me of 13 Songs Fugazi stizz. He told me he had never heard Fugazi. My mouth dropped in disbelief. Then he told me he's 22. That explains it.

Anyway, they opened for The Angelsluts and Guaco which weren't really doing it for me so Chris and I tried to move on to the next stop. However, after a quick stop at a couple of places we realized that Murphy's was the hot ticket and everywhere else was pretty dead, so we returned and caught the end of the show before. Then Will invited people over so we went back to his place to chill. It was pretty late but people still just kept showing up the rest of the evening. It's funny how word gets around about these late night gatherings.

So I guess tonight I'm gonna check out Augustine and The Glass at The Deli. Eric's been telling me about how Augustine is the shits for about a month, so I am sure it will be a great show. See ya there.

Snowglobe.jpgOk, so here's what I remember about Friday night. Eric and I got to the Deli early so that we could grab a bite to eat and get a table for the show. The opening band was Neva Dinova from Omaha. They were a little moody, but pretty good. This was their last stop on the tour so they seemed a little over it all but I enjoyed it. By the time Snowglobe started playing I had been at the Deli for almost 4 hours, so I was ready for the show needless to say. We danced and sang along and had a great time. They really are a great band. I doubt they will play again for a while since they just got off tour, but when they do, you should check them out. Chris and Vickie showed up at the ass-end and Chris made the fatal mistake of buying me another cocktail which led to some obnoxious square dancing with Vickie. Oh well, we had fun. I make a fool out of myself on a daily basis so my feelings aren't hurt.

After the encore, which pretty much came about because I stood up front chanting "One More Song" for 10 minutes, we dropped by Dish for last call. I rallied up Richens and Sims and we debated our next stop. There was some raver gig at Premiere Palace that I heard was blowing up, but Mark and Jaydread had to have a veggie burger before we could go anywhere. Veggie burger at 3am in Memphis? You know it's all about the Two-Way. Anyway, it seems every other hipster in Memphis needed a burger fix too cause the place was packed out. Needless to say, we never made it anywhere else.

Cort was my hero when I walked outside and caught him on the phone calling a cab. That's pretty cool. Of course, he lives at Cooper and Poplar, so he must have been really trashed. I offered him a ride cause I hated to see him pay for a cab for such a short trip. And by offering him a ride I mean I asked Mark to take him home since I wasn't even driving. But hey, Mark's cool that way. For instance, when he took me back to my car, he didn't just let me get out and drive away, he waited and let me get into my car and start it up before he pulled away. Of course, he could have just been looking for his cigarettes under his seat or talking on his cell phone, but it was a nice gesture. We call him LL Cool M, cause all the ladies love Cool Mark.

The only downer of the evening was when we went to get into Mark's car at the Two-Way Cort noticed that someone had totally side swiped him in the parking lot. So durst! There's been some bad car karma in Memphis this last week. Be careful out there!

Last night Scenester Scotty's house party was pretty much off the hook, except for the part where someone drank my beers and I had to pee outside behind the house cause there were 82 people in line for the WC. Luckily Richens went to get something to eat around 2:30 so he made an emergency run to Mapco for us. My only regret of the evening was texting afetr 2AM. That's my new rule. No text messaging after 2AM. If you see me with a beer in one hand and my phone open in the other, well, first buy me a cocktail cause I don't like beer, but secondly, please take the phone out of my hand and remind me that HE HAS A GIRLFRIEND! DUH!

Tonight we are all over Senses for Old School Ass Shakin. See ya there.

trailer.jpgDamnit, I have stuff to do! But I totally forgot to tell you that Mung is playing tonight at the grand reopening of The Complex! (Elizabeth just called me and told me th show was cancelled) I got to see Elizabeth and Eldorado do a fierce version of the Grease Megamix Wednesday night when we hit The Windjammer, (YEAH! I SAID IT!) with some peeps for Karaoke and to celebrate Kasey's birthday!

Anyway, I'm gonna check that show out and then there's a slew of house parties tonight. Scenester Scotty is hosting one for Aaron's b-day and Tyler's having one for, well, for drinking and fighting probably. So, see ya there.

P.S. Eric and I were in the Thursday edition of the CA talking about why we go to the Buc. The weird thing is that i look kind of trashed...

Young Agent Jones.jpgI've been meaning to do this post all week, but you know how life gets in the way? Anyhey, last Sunday night I went to check out my friend's band play at Murphy's. He told me that I should definitely get there early because he thought that I would really dig the band that was opening for his. He was right on target. The guys from said band, Young Agent Jones (formerly The Bronson Pinchot Tribute Band), put on a really great, high energy show. They were really fun to watch and there were even a few people (gasp!) dancing. I've read that their sound has elements of Big Star, Weezer and even Jimmy eat World, but to me they kind of sound like what The Hives would sound like if they had been around in the '80's.

Anyway, we were supposed to hang out with them after the show, but there was some type of miscommunication (if you only knew!) and it didn't end up happening. Luckily for me (and you if you live in Memphis!) they are playing St Paddy's Day (March 17th) at The Hi-Tone. I highly recommend you check out the show that night! I see way more shows than I actually post about, so take my word for it, you will dig them. Since the band always wears black suits, it should be a good opportunity for me to pinch some azzzzzzzz.

Holy Schmoly. I am back in effect. I didn't realize until yesterday that when you get Roadrunner hookdid up, you're on Time Warner time which means Wednesday is actually Thursday. Awesome.

Anyways. I am still a little scattered in terms of work, my new place, unpacking and all the stuff that goes along with moving, but things are getting there. For now, I'm gonna go catch up on your blog, take a nap, watch some VH1, and then go to The Buc to hear Buck Wilders and The Hook-Up. I am meeting Bayne tonight at midnight at the Deli to get my stuff from him that I left at his house. If I wind up getting stabbed in the eye, well, you'll know who did it. Don't get me wrong, Bayne's a great guy and I like him, he just wasn't a very good friend to me. I pretty much give everyone three chances, then I move on. It's hard enough being friends with the people who are actually nice to you, if someone isn't then you might as well give it up. Of course, I'm also full of it and a big softie, so don't be surprised if you see me sitting at the bar with him buying him drinks.

b-painting.jpgWhat is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you? I think that question was answered for me this week. I mean, people do nice things for me all of the time, and I appreciate it a great deal, but this one tops them all.

My friend Brad Troxel is one of the best artists I have ever seen. His paintings blow me away. I tell people all the time that they should go check out his art shows and the plays and musicals that he art directs. They are always fantastic. A few months ago Brad asked me about hooking him up with someone who could help him get a website designed for him to show his work. I brokered a deal between him and my friend Patrik, and in lieu of payment, Brad would do a commissioned painting for him, which sell for a pretty penny, and are worth every cent.

Well, this year for Christmas, Patrik used that commission to have Brad paint something for me. I had no idea until they gave it to me this weekend. It's the coolest thing anyone has ever done for me by far. It's going over my bed, so hopefully lots of people will get to see it. I love you guys! Thank you soooooooooooo much!

Well, I guess I won the drink-off. Not because I consumed more alcohol than my opponent, of course, but because I managed not to do any property damage to his vehicle. Wish I could say vice versa was true. Sure, your first reaction may be to tsk tsk me about drinking and driving, and I would certainly agree. However, this was not the case. Somehow I managed to receive a giant dent, surprisingly similar to the shape of a foot, on the hood of my car while it was parked in the parking lot. I guess that's what I get for throwing Cort's sock over the fence.

Anyway, the plan after the Snowglobe show (who were fantastic as usual) at the Hi-Tone was to drag all the rock stars in the house over to Wild Bill's. However, as intense convo's seemed to be in effect we stayed much later than we intended and were kicked out when it closed. Somehow we ended up at Alex's, but we grew tired of that place pretty quickly. I beleive I made three attempts to call it a night, but ended up making three more stops. All of the rockstars said that they were tired and going home, so we went and got the drummer from that band, what's it called? Vintage Drapes? who was passed out on Cort's couch and hit some house party where the entertainment of the evening was watching everyone kick Santa's ass. I did get to chat with Bass Cadet for a hot minute, which was cool, I just wish I remembered what I said. I watched the sun come up on Landis as two of my companions wrestled in the street.

My birthday is coming up and I think I'm having a mid-life crisis cause I seem to be acting like I'm 18 a lot. What are the downfalls of not acting your age again?

P.S. I heard it through the grapevine that XYZ has closed it's doors permanently. Now how am I gonna go see that Vintage Drapey show next week? I kind of knew the place was going down when I was there for some afterhours party and 10 police officers walked in. I asked one of them what was up and he said they were just there for training.

P.S.S. I got a plus one to see David Brooking's Band with Young Agent Jones tonight at Murphy's. Chris says they rock. Anyone wanna go? I slept with the bartender 12 years ago and he told everyone I was bad in bed, he denies it, but he owes me quite a few drinks either way.

BTW, I know my comments are effed up, but there's a redesign on the way so I'm not bothering to fix them. Laters.

Last night I went to Patrik's, chatted, checked email, talked shop, went to the Pinch, did shots with Justin, met Helen, left and went to Tunnnel Clones at The Full Moon Club, met up with Miles, Leo, Robbie, Chris and the other Rachel, flirted with Bosco, drank beer, shook my ass, demanded refund for Mark as he was walking in as we were departing, went to the Hi-Tone, met up with Jason, Aurora, Annie, Nick, etc, etc, talked shit at the bar with Greg and Cort, felt guilty, rallied the crew to the afterparty at Miles', drank more beer, and then waxed philosophical about the record industry in the back bedroom with the kids until the wee hours of the morning. Forgot camera.

Time to take a shower and do it all over again.

thegirls.jpgLast night was supposed to be my first official evening on the town after my NYC debacle, of course, if you've been paying attention you might recall that I cheated and went out Tuesday and Wednesday. Oh well. It still felt like my first night back in town. Does that count?

Anyway, we got a bunch of girls together, including my new roommate Georgia, Natalie, Lindsay, Miss Hellion, oh and our lone lucky male Brad, and headed down to BlueFin where we proceeded to wine and dine ourselves. Everything was going great, dinner was good, drinks were prompt, our friend Kristen waited on us, then I accidentally set my poncho on fire. Good thing I was wearing another poncho underneath it. I know, I know, Mar Kelly sez ponchos are sooooo over, but thats why I wore two, plus it's retro right? Anyway, Georgia and Brad put me out and we decided that it was time to depart. Our next stop of the evening was Dish.

dishpic.jpgWhen we arrived we were in for quite a treat as a local entrepeneur, whom I think is great and so shall remain nameless, was beyond t-rashed and proceeded to act as the entertainment for the evening until his/her husband/wife (no clues) was called to come and retrieve him/her. He/she managed to knock over quite a few drinks during his/her exploits which would come to be my downfall (literally) later in the night.

We had planeed to go to the Buc and then end up at the Hi-Tone. However, as our party increased in size, the idea of playing the role of "Julie the Cruise Director" seemed less and less appealing. Everyone wanted me to rally the folx, but I was content to stay where I didn't have to fight for a drink and I could actually hear the people talking to me. Great start to what's gonna be a great weekend. See ya around town.

P.S. Happy Birthday Justin Hand! Love ya!

P.S.S. BTW, The Kings of Leon show in NYC was the shiznits. Bayne took some great pics, but alas, I probably will never see them . Sorry JAG, but there's no way Exit Inn is even in the running. I've beeen to Exit Inn, and it's no Webster Hall. Check out the NYT Artcle about KOL's Manhattan moment.

You have probably heard by now, but if not, a fire broke out at Easley-McCain Recording Studio this week in Memphis. Luckily, no one was injured in the blaze, which began with a suspected power surge. While the studio's main room was undamaged, the lobby was gutted and much of the downstairs was decimated with fire, smoke, and water damage. The echo chambers and the master tapes stored at this facility appear intact, but studio owners Doug Easley and Davis McCain won't know the full extent of damage until after an insurance inspection later this week.

Hundreds of acts have recorded here, including the White Stripes (White Blood Cells), Pavement (Wowee Zowee), Sonic Youth (Washing Machine), Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (Extra Width), Wilco (AM), Guided By Voices, Modest Mouse, Cat Power, Rocket From the Crypt, Iggy Pop, Young Fresh Fellows, Mr. Airplane Man, and Sparklehorse. Jeff Buckley, Charlie Feathers, and Townes Van Zandt recorded their last sessions here, while Memphis legends such as Alex Chilton, the Grifters, the Oblivians, Reigning Sound, the Tearjerkers, Tav Falco's Panther Burns, Impala, Big Ass Truck, Monsieur Jeffrey Evans & '68 Comeback, and many, many more, cut pivotal releases at the studio. Most recently, Jack White and Loretta Lynn mixed the Grammy-winning Van Lear Rose at Easley-McCain.

Thanks Drew.

snow.jpgMy life is in disarray at the moment. I am half-way moved into my new house. Big ups to Patty Dreggz for helping me paint my bedroom, you rock my world. There is still a lot to do. I won't have internet access until next Wednesday, so posting will be sporadic until then, if at all. But even though I have barely slept in the past 7 days, I will still be going out this weekend. What else am I gonna do? Watch tv?

Thursday: Witness, Carlos and Binge Crosby @ Dish
Friday: Birthday Kegger @ The Hi-Tone
Saturday: Snowglobe Welcome Back Partay @ Hi-Tone

If you emailed me in the last week, I probably deleted it along with the 2000 spam emails I received. Email me again.

Carry On.
