My friend Natasha had a rooftop party last weekend for her birthday and to say goodbye to everyone. She's off to NYC to start her residency at a hospital in the Bronx. She's going to be a pediatrician. I'm feeling really useless today.

P.S. In better news, I might be the best night life blogger in Tennessee.

This has been one of the worst weeks of my life. Not only did my dog get hit by a car last Sunday, my roommate decided that this week she was gonna throw a party every night until dawn. Maybe if my mom dies I'll be able to get a little peace and quiet in the place where I live. Actually, probably not unless I move.

I'm still pretty depressed but I plan on supporting my friends tonight at The Hi-Tone. You know what's up, unless you've been living under a rock. Also on the agenda for the weekend is the Antique Curtain's show at The Buc Saturday and Out Hud and Hella Sunday at The Hi-Tone. Don't get offended if I just sit in the corner and don't say hello. I'm sad.

According to Eric, there's an all day Memphis Music Festival happening on Sunday the 24th with Lucero, Snowglobe, The Pirates, Augustine, The Glass, and The Secret Service at The Two-Way Inn (I betcha that place is real scary during the daytime!) that will be the perfect way to end my birthday weekend. Here's the plan if you're interested:

Thursday: Drinks and Tapas @ Dish 9PM
Friday: Harlan T. Bobo & Friends @ First Congo 10PM
THEN Mosquitoes w/The Hook-Up @ The Hi-Tone 12AM
Saturday: Scenestars.net Presents: One Night Stand @ The Buc 10PM
Sunday: Memphis Music Fest @ The Two Way Inn (anyone know when this starts?)

Did you know I might be an Indie-Yuppie? I've been called worse.

Party on.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know you've seen the picture of me at the Buc taking a cat nap in the booth. I was tired yo! It's pretty funny pic though, and contrary to popular belief there is not another one of me under the table. I don't think.

Asobi Seksu and Deathray were excellent. There was a great turnout and all the fine ladies were up in the hizzouse geting their groove on. Fun times. After the show a lot of folks rallied to move on over to The Buc to say happy birthday to Buck Wilders. Too bad by the time we got there he had already gone home to pass out from excessive drinkage. I have to be very careful of that at my b-day function. I would hate to pass out at the Buc. Again. The rest of the hipster elite went to a faux kegger at Scenster Scotty's abode, which I hear got off to a great start as one of his roommates stood in the living room in her PJ's blocking people from coming into the house. That's Awesome!

So last night I went to Brad Stanfill's last minute house party. It was chill before midnight and Amanda apologized for it being so low-key, but I wasn't worried, I knew by 1:30 the word would hit the street and it would be packed out. By 2AM we had Dance Party USA up in ther and by 2:15 we made an emergency beer run and it was on.

Someone, who shall remain nameless, totally failed the slut test last night. Ya see, if you're making out with a random guy and someone asks you his name and you have to go through the numbers in your phone to figure it out, you failed yo.

Tonight's Agenda? Jason Freeman's band is playing at The Blue Monkey, Natasha is having a going-away rooftop party downtown that Sims and Mark are spinning at, The Bloodthirsty Lovers are playing with The Circuit Benders at the Hi-tone, Memphis Parties is hosting a patio party at The Glass Onion before the show (isn't that place supposed to be closed by now?)oh and it's Harry from The Angel Sluts birthday so there's a party at his place. I guess I'll sleep when I'm dead.

P.S. I finally got around to scanning the CA Article about Scenestars. Check it out.

OMG! I think I might have made my favorite bartender (from the Buc) angered! I was totally pulling his leg with my April Fools Day post to get him back for writing "What A Wuss!" on my bar tab last weekend after I declined to flash him. Well, actually I did flash him once, but I took him so off guard that he closed his eyes and looked away! Then when he realized what had just happened he wanted a do-over, but by that time my feelings had been hurt! Anyway, I think he's awesome and tell him not to be mad at me! Blaggin is serious business!

Anywho, last night Patrik and I finally made it to Sin City which, surprisingly enough, I liked and he didn't. Afterwards I went to meet Chris at The Blue Monkey to catch Cory and Ben play. They were worried about the show since the bar doesn't lend itself well to actually being able to hear the music over all of the yammering, but I thought it was great. I couldn't hear their banter as much as usual, but I did get to chime in about that hot new club on Jackson, The Pony. If you get a chance you should really check that place out!

So, the show was good. I got to hang out with Jamie and Katie for a hot minute. Katie is a girl after my own heart in that she texted her bf during the whole show. We both hate talking on the phone. Jamie says he's gonna call so that we can go have a beer, but alas he never does and P.S. he's going out of town so he's gonna miss my birthday party! Durst!

After Jamie and Katie split, Chris and I discussed a little project we're gonna work on together to obtain world domination. It's the perfect job for me which should allow me to get paid to drink beer and bullshit, which is what I am a champion at! More to come on that laters...

I am thinking about going to see The Mountain Goats tonight. I'm kind of tired though, and tomorrow night is gonna be an all nighter easily with Asobi Seksu playing the Hi-Tone with Viva L'American Deathray and then the afterparty at The Buc to celebrate Buck Wilders birthday and apologize to Scott. Hopefully we will both have had a few beers by the time I get there.

P.S. The Memphis Feel-Harmonic DJ Symphony Orchestra now have a Myspace profile and a new website.

I guess I am finally starting to buy into the age propaganda force-fed to me with every tv commercial, magazine advert and music video I see. While purchasing moisturizer this afternoon I went for the anti-aging bottle instead of regular. I was thumbing through a magazine the other day and read some ad about how a certain anti-wrinkle cream will help you lie about your age and say you're 29. Do people really do this? Lie about their age? I'm kind of proud of my age. I mean, yeah, I complain about being old a lot, but here's the thing: I know a lot of kids who are around 22 - 24, and they all think that they are super mature. I'm not saying that they aren't, but when I was 15 I thought I was super mature too - then when I was 20 I realized at 15 I didn't know anything. This phenomenon has contiued throughout my life. Up until a few years ago, I really thought I had a lot figured out. Now I'm smart enough to realize that I will never have any of it figured out and people that are older than me have more experience in life and that should be respected. That's why I kind of like being older than most of my friends. I'm not the one constantly trying to prove that I'm on the same level as everybody else. I just am what I am and am comfortable with it. But I still bought the effing anti-aging lotion today.

Anyway, last night was fun until 4AM rolled up and I had to kick everyone out of my house. The Pirates show was a little low-key so we moved over to the Deli so I could chow down on a hamburger. I only finished half and asked for a box to take it home, but before it arrived my companions inhaled it. V2.0 was headed to the Iron Skillet in Arkansas for kicks, located in the largest truck stop in the country, but I opted to just bring people back to my place, cause when it was time to call it a night I didn't have far to stumble to fall into my bed. 9AM came pretty early this morning.

Tonight there's a "secret" performance by Cory Branan and Ben Nichols at The Black Baboon (that's the Blue Monkey to the uninitiated.) Afterthat you should check out The Punk Rock Dance party at The Hi-Tone. It's PBR beer bust, which means you should get about 2 and a half beers before the keg is tapped. See ya there...

UPDATE: Uh, yeah there was a show at the Hi-tone tonight. My bad...

April 4, 2005

Yesterday was awesome. Not only did I not leave my house, I didn't even get out of my pj's. I woke up LATE, got up, ate some food then went back to bed. Woke up again, played a video game, read a book, fell asleep, woke up, ate again, built a new website for King of Crops, then trolled Myspace with Sims for cool people to invite to be friends with The Memphis Feelharmonic DJ Symphony Orchestra. Around 1AM I got hit up to got have a beer, but since I never showered yesterday, I regretfully declined.

Anyway, I am fully recharged and ready to go for the week. Augustine had to cancel their show at The complex tonight, so I guess that means I am off to the Hi-Tone to get dissed and see The Pirates play. See ya there...

BTW: Is it like totally weird that my mom keeps sending me this email to sign up for a birthday reminder service? Geezus! It's not like she has 8 kids or anything!

P.S. Abby called the freaks that are already lining up for the Star Wars III premeire in 6 weeks.

P.S.S. is it cheating if you put cheese on a Lean Cuisine?

KRS.jpgSo last night at around 9 I was sitting on my bed playing a video game when my friend called to see what was going on for the evening. I told him that I was thinking about going to the Buccaneer, but I might just stay in since my roommate was out of town and I was kind of digging just hanging out by myself. He was like - but it's Saturday night, you're not gonna not go out on Saturday night!

My response? "You know who goes out on Saturday night? Ya mom!"

Anyway, right before I got settled in for the evening I talked with Sims who hooked me up with a ticket for the KRS-1 show down at Plush. So, I threw on some clothes and went and picked him up and rolled downtown. When we got there The Iron Mic Coalition was on. They were ok, but a little raw. Their best song was "Eat Some Chicken" as they handed out fried chicked to the crowd. It was a decent mix of white folks and black folks. The place wasn't packed out but it was full enough. I have to say that I wasn't that impressed with Plush - for some reason I thought it would be nicer. The security was mad tight as we had to walk through metal detectors to get in and they made us return to my car to stash the fliers we had brought to pass out. So durst!

Anyway, KRS-1 put on a great show, even with all the technical difficulties they seemed to be having with the sound system. He was there to teach us all a lesson in Hip-Hop, like how without Heavy D there would be no Puff Daddy, and without MC Search there would be no Eminem. To tell you the truth, I am always floored when no one gives props to the Beastie Boys. Yeah, they were white, but they were the first rappers to go platinum, they brought Hip=Hop to the suburbs, and hate to tell ya, but they were the godfathers of what it is today. It isn't black kids that have made hip-hop the phenomenon and money maker it is today - it's the white kids that have appropriated rap that make it a valuable commodity. That's why that show wasn't packed out last night. The blak kids don't have the money to go to the show due to the huge income gap between the races in Memphis, and the white kids were scared to come, if they even knew about it, because it wasn't an MTV friendly personality.

Not that I even meant to get into all that. But KRS-1 is one of the greats of Hip-Hop and in a city that's 70% black, why that show wasn't packed out is something to think about.

It's funny cause Jason thinks I'm not hip-hop. He was totally teasing me about being a b-girl last night cause I was getting into the show. But the truth of the matter is I've probably seen way more hip-hop/rap shows than he has, everyone from Ice T, Ice Cube, Doug E. Fresh, The Beastie Boys (5 times), Public Enemy, Fishbone, Cypress Hill, Arrested Development, Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, and Outkast. I am Hip-Hop, yo.

Also, I lost like an entire hour of my life last night, and I didn't even drink since I was the designated driver! WEIRD!

P.S. Why working at being cool is never cool...

Have you ever literally felt a crush dissipate from your body? It feels weird, yo. Three weeks ago, I was on fire - now I'm smoldering, and not in a good way. Oh well, I must have had some phermones working overtime cause there were too many guys to keep up with last month, now they've all found 20 year-olds to hang out with. Lucky bitches.

Anywho - I should have just done what I intended to do last night, which was go to a movie, but due to several circumstances and several calls from people looking for something to do, I decided to try and find the party. But for some reason last night, I was either two steps ahead or two steps behind. We went to a party that supposedly got fun as soon as we left. We went to Neil's to see Mung and got there after they had finished playing. Finally we went to Dish and had a decent time, but I was just too exhausted to really get into it. I bid my companions farewell to go home and go to bed, but on my way home I received a text message saying that the party we had been to earlier was packed out and I should come back. I was literally driving past the street it was on when I got it, so I made a right and went to check things out.

Luckily, I got there just in time to see the guy that I had seen earlier downtown, the one I had told to come there, the one that I have a 12-year-old-school-girl-crush on, the one that told me he wasn't gonna go out but gave me his number and told me to call him - leaving with another girl. Awesome. Well, I'm glad that's over.

You know what was really funny about last night? The way everyone said at Dish that they weren't going to The Buccaneer and then they all came anyway. Anywho, the dancing that was supposed to happen didn't, but I still had fun. First Scott Rogers bought me like 8 shots and then we went into the back totally made out all over the floor. Then he made me french fries and smeared ketchup all over me and then dipped the french fries in the ketchup and then fed them to me. It was soooooooooooooooooooo hot. After that we went back to his house and played Parcheesi and watched Freddie Got Fingered which is so like my favorite movie. Ever! I kind of don't remember much after that. Scott made me a drink and then I got really, really tired. He was nice enough to let me lay down on his bed and take a nap. I must have gotten up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom cause this morning I woke up and my panties were on backwards! Man, I must have been really tired!

There is nothing going on tonight so I'm gonna go to a movie with Patrik and then stop by to pay my last respects to the Onion. Tomorrow night The Buccaneer should be pretty packed late. If you get the chance, you should definitely check out Augustine Monday night. I know the Pirates are playing at The Hi-Tone - but don't worry, they're playing again on the 18th, and if you were a real fan you saw them Wednesday night at The Glass Onion already, right?

P.S. This post was brought to you by the first of April, fool.

P.S.S. Augustine got cancelled. See ya at The Hi=tone...
