I Need a Date!!!
Circa's $30 Lion King Prix Fixe
The Lion King will rule the jungle at The Orpheum Theatre, just two blocks from Circa, August 23 to September 16 (Tuesdays through Sundays).
Worried about where to park and have dinner before the show? Don't be! Our suggested plan: Valet park at Circa for just $5 at the corner of Gayoso and Main (approaching from Front St.), power-dine on our $30 (plus tax and gratuity) Lion King Prix Fixe (please note: between 5:00 and 6:00 PM and on show nights only), and take a leisurely walk or trolley ride in plenty of time for a 7:30 or 8:00 PM curtain rise.
Circa's special menu includes the following:
Circa's Lion King prix fixe
1
Choice of Lobster and Crab Bisque, the Chef's Fresh Soup du Jour, or
a Petite Mixed Green Salad in Mustard Vinaigrette
2
Choice of 6 oz. Filet Mignon Bordelaise with Fried Shallots and Potato Puree
Grilled Blackened Fish du Jour with Lemon Caper Beurre Blanc and Fingerling Potatoes, or
Tasmanian King Salmon Beurre Rouge with Spinach, Basil, Mushrooms and Cucumber-Tomato Salad,
3
Choice of Le Frasier (Fresh Strawberry Sponge Cake with Bavarian Cream and Marzipan), or
Chef's Il Diplomatico (Dark Chocolate Mousse Layered with Coconut Rum Infused Cake)
Selection of Teas or Coffee
$30 per person (plus tax and gratuity)
What Wines with Chocolate? - On Wednesday, August 29, at 7:00 PM we will hold our second Circa-style wine event, led by our General Manager and Director of Adult Beverages, Randy Caparoso (read his eruditions on www.wineloverspage.com/randysworld). Randy has long conceded that there isn’t much more to life beyond wine and chocolate, but he also has discovered that it's not just Port and Champagne that go with the fruits of the cacao tree. To that end, Chef/Owner John Bragg will collaborate with Blues City Pastry Shop's GM/Chocolatier Carol Whitmore (who also will be on hand to chat with you about chocolate making) to prepare five variations of truffles and European-style hand rolls to match five of the most chocolate-friendly wines you will ever taste:
Avignonesi, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (Toscano, Italy)
La Colombaia, Amarone della Valpolicella (Veneto, Italy)
Earthquake, Zinfandel (Lodi, California)
Ferreira, "Duque de Braganca" 20 Year Old Tawny Port (Portugal)
Sarocco, Moscato d’Asti (Piemonte, Italy)

Center for Southern Folklore to present 20th Annual Memphis Music & Heritage Festival
From Rufus Thomas, Othar Turner, Laura Dukes, Charlie Musselwhite, Ann Peebles, to Alex Chilton, the Memphis Music and Heritage Festival has presented the best musicians, dancers, artisans and storytellers from our diverse Mid-South community. This year's 20th festival on September 1 and 2 will be no exception to that tradition.
"This year's festival will grow to five stages to present more than 100 performers in rock, blues, jazz, rockabilly, country, gospel and reggae along with crafts people, storytellers, dancers, puppeteers and culinary artists," said Judy Peiser, executive producer and co-founder of the Center for Southern Folklore.
"Our goal is to present the best musicians and artists in a safe, family friendly environment with stages that allow an up close experience with all of the artists," added Peiser.
The festival is free and will take place in downtown Memphis at the intersection of Main Street and Peabody Place, on Saturday and Sunday, September 1 and 2, 2007.
Performances begin at 11:00 AM and will end by 11:00 PM each day. (For a complete schedule, please call the Center for Southern Folklore at 901-525-3655 or check out their website at www.memphismusicandheritagefestival.com.)

Goner News
Hello!
Things are moving moving moving here at Goner HQ! Our biggest news is the successful launch of Harlan T Bobo's 2nd cd, I'm Your Man, winning accolades across the globe from old fans and new friends alike. Reviews out any moment in Harp, Pitchfork, Magnet, and Mojo! Tell a friend, let everybody know- they need this cd! Now available via iTunes! More info at http://www.goner-records.com/harlantbobo
Europeans- watch for Harlan jumping the pond to do some rocking and rolling Memphis-style with none other than Jack Oblivian August 29 through October 7th. Complete tour dates c/o Kissnrun booking are here http://kissnrun.com/ontour.html
Have to mention the fantastic Daniel Johnston show last Thursday as well- Mr Johnston playing with Harlan's band was truly special!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
-Also brand newish from Goner is the Final Solutions latest, the rascally Songs By Solutions! These Memphians really show the world how to twist punk rock back into something fun, funny, and weird all at the same time. Yes! http://www.goner-records.com/finalsolutions
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
-We had a great time hosting the Makeshift label showcase last Saturday, August 11- thanks to all the bands and especially J.D. Reager for helping coordinate the event. A great afternoon of music from Brad Postlethwaite, Blair Combest, J.D. Reager and Dragoon. Buy the Makeshift 5 cd - profits go to the very-worthy Church Health Center.
We also had the pleasure of hosting a top-secret (well, not that secret) show Monday, August 13 from Austin, Texas' whiskey-swillin' Golden Boys. These trombone-totin' hellions might just be the best band on the planet right now, and it was great to see them in the confines of our humble store. Openers TSOT cranked up some high volume banjitar racket as well.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
-Gonerfest 4 is looming large at the end of September and we're running around like crazy trying to make sure everything is taken care of. Yes, there are really 35 bands coming from 3 Continents- Australia has a strong contingent coming this year. Do you know what happens when you get a bunch of Australians running around in Memphis? Me, neither! Don't miss it! Tickets are on sale now. Details and a complete schedule at http://www.gonerfest.com. Wow.
And hey- if you would like to advertise in the Goner program guide, please email us at gonerfest@gmail.com for more info. Hurry- the deadline to reserve ad space is Thursday, August 16. That's soon!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
