Going Gray at Girltalk

I have a confession to make: I am getting old.

Now, I know what you’re thinking – Rachel, you’re not old – you look GREAT! But, alas, I must be getting old because last Friday night when I went to Girltalk at Minglewood Hall I felt something that I have never felt before at a live music performance: crotchety.

It’s not that it wasn’t a good show, if you could call it a show. The kids were having a blast and the sound system was fantastic. But it felt like a rave with a top 40 DJ at the helm. A history lesson for people born in the 90s, if you will. Which felt, I don’t know – silly? But I know it’s really just me, because most people at the show, many some of the biggest music snobs I know, seemed to love singing along to the hits.

Maybe because I have actually been to parties that lasted all night, where couches have been set on fire or everyone felt the urge to get naked and jump in the pool – it all seemed a little retro and tame.  Maybe I should have just given in, grabbed a glow stick and busted a move.

But what I found most disturbing was the fact that the crowd at the show looked like the 80s had thrown up all over them. From short shorts, neon colors to fairy wings – it’s all been done before people! And if it looked fashion forward at one time – believe me, now it just looks like you are trying WAY too hard.

Check out these girls – I promise you, they look like my mom in 1985 – and it wasn’t a good look then.  Seriously! What’s with the HUGE glasses? They don’t look good on anyone, they just make you look ridiculous!
