I’m not worried about Tuesday at all – I have no doubt Kamala Harris will be declared our next president tomorrow night – here’s why:
One thing I think the press has not pointed out enough is that Trump has been running for President while he is literally out on bail.
Since leaving office in 2020, Trump’s legal issues have been a total circus. Between his multiple indictments and court appearances – he’s spent the majority of his time trying to figure out how to not go to jail – and it doesn’t take a genius to see his plan is to be president again. His base might see these legal troubles as him being targeted, but for the rest of America – it’s easy to see that it’s him, he’s the problem.
The majority of Americans do not believe that being president means you are immune from the law. The majority of Americans do not want a dictator. The majority of Americans do not want to spend the next 4 years watching Trump try to get revenge on his enemies. The majority of Americans aren’t down with Project 2025.
When he won in 2016, he said he would hire “the best people,” but the majority of people that worked with him during his presidency either quit or got fired. There was record turnover, with a lot of well-respected, lifelong government officials publicly bashing Trump, and Trump bashing them back – which means either what they said about Trump being really bad at being president was true – or he is really terrible at hiring “the best” people.
I’ve gone over his failures as president at length, so I won’t go over them again – but let’s just say – he was obviously not good at it.
Not to mention, the economy under Biden has been surprisingly resilient. Jobs are up – inflation is cooling – and the stock market isn’t having daily panic attacks anymore. Anyone who says that they’re voting for Trump because of the economy is literally an idiot. Trump has no economic plan other than tax cuts. His base can’t even complain about gas prices right now. He can’t win on the economy, he was terrible for the economy. People that actually understand the economy won’t be voting for him.
He’ll also most likely be losing a significant amount of the female vote since women have literally lost rights directly because of Trump. His Supreme Court appointments led directly to this outcome – and women haven’t forgotten. The stories about women dying because they couldn’t get abortions to save their own lives in states like Texas are not winning him any new fans.
The only reason to be against abortion even if it saves the life of the mother is some backwoods religious belief (it’s god’s plan!) but surprise! According to the Pew Research Center, the percentage of U.S. adults identifying as Christian decreased from 78% in 2007 to 63% in 2021. So it seems like the religious right has been steadily losing ground with their illogical political stances. (God sent a philandering man with 5 kids by 3 different women who stole money from his own charity, and has a penchant for lying, selfishness and greed to lead us to the promised land – hallelujah!)
BTW – I have no problem with religion, as long as you actually follow the guidance and belief systems as described – instead of using it as a basis of control.
Anyway, there’s also Biden’s decisive victory in 2020 – he won the popular vote by over 7 million votes. That wasn’t just a win – it was America collectively saying “enough” to the chaos. It is completely illogical that Trump has won any of those voters back in the last 4 years, but makes complete sense that he’s probably lost a significant amount of his 2020 votes.
And let’s be honest – voter fatigue with Trump is real. His act has gotten staler than week-old bread. I can’t imagine his voters attending one of his rallies and listening to his nonsensical speeches for a couple of hours and not coming away with a feeling of doubt in the pit of their stomachs. That’s why there are so many videos of them leaving early.
I know the media has made this out to be a close race – but that’s just the media media-ing. The only way to keep people watching is to sew anxiety – no one watches or reads the news for fun. We pay attention as a form of protection. And it is INSANE that Trump continues to have any support at all – but it tells you a lot about the people who do.
The math is simple. Take Biden’s base – add women energized by reproductive rights – sprinkle in some moderate Republicans exhausted by Trump’s legal drama – and you’ve got yourself a Harris victory.
Of course, I have no doubt that Trump will once again claim that he won and the whole thing was rigged – and that might again incite some of his cult members to go off the rails. And that’s what I’m afraid for on Wednesday.
