Who She Is
Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Stein was a 21-year-old intern at a luxury department store in New York City in 1994 when she was introduced to Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell then introduced her to Epstein. Over the next three years, she says she was raped by Epstein, Maxwell, and unnamed individuals she was introduced to. She came forward after Maxwell was convicted in December 2021 and delivered a victim impact statement at Maxwell’s sentencing in June 2022. She now works as a survivor mentor, policy adviser, and anti-trafficking activist.
What She Says Happened
Stein was raped by Epstein, Maxwell, and others over a three-year period beginning in 1994. She came forward publicly at Maxwell’s sentencing in June 2022 and has since given multiple major media interviews to NBC News, PBS NewsHour, and the BBC. On transparency: ‘We are willing to do whatever we need to find justice, and we’re willing to talk about what happened to us so that the public knows what the truth is.’ On being asked to name names: ‘Absolutely, it does trouble me. We haven’t been protected up until this point. We haven’t been informed. And it’s an enormous burden to ask a survivor to name the names of their accusers when they don’t feel like anything is going to be done about it.’ On Maxwell receiving potential leniency: ‘It makes me question what the motive is and what the message that the Justice Department wants to send to us and to send to our nation about people in power.’
What She Did About It
Stein filed civil suit against Epstein and Maxwell. She gave a victim impact statement at Maxwell’s June 2022 sentencing. She continues to advocate for the Epstein Files Transparency Act and appeared at the September 2025 Capitol Hill press conference. She has given multiple major media interviews and appeared before Congress. She now works as a survivor mentor and anti-trafficking policy adviser, and is one of the most articulate policy-focused voices among survivors.
